What makes an individual great? Is it ability or mentality. I have seen so many people with potential fall by the wayside which ultimately landed them far short of their intended goal, dream or future endeavor because they did not have the right mentality nor the ability.
It is my assertion that in order to be great both of these ingredients are essential. You need a collaboration of the two if one aspires to become great. I would also say that the mentality plays a far bigger role in becoming great than ability, and once again you need both.
There are countless examples of individuals who went on to achieve greatness and they had very in the way of ability, however they believed in themselves and would let nothing stop them from their date with destiny. Them practiced and practiced and practiced, and sought out the advice from experts, mentors and coaches, individuals who have gone on to achieve what they themselves are aspiring to achieve.
It all starts with a mindset that says I can do it. I am destined to be great. You must have the ultimate confidence along with the ability to work hard, and persevere. You must have unwavering faith and belief that you can do the impossible.
Also note that without some type of ability to do the thing you aspire, all the wishful thinking, and practice, and mentors and coaches will avail you nothing.
It takes the right combination of the two ingredients woven into the subconscious mind for one to arrive at the door step of greatness.
It has always been my experience that in order for one to follow along the path of greatness you have to belief that you were destined for greatness. I am sure that you can find countless examples of those who had remarkable talent, ability, and the wherewithal to accomplish their dreams and goals but somehow they never made it to the promised land because their mindset was not one of success and greatness.
I imagine they got sidetracked due to discouragement, they no doubt listened to what others that told them they could never accomplish this seemingly impossible task. Somehow they took their eye off the prize, perhaps they began to focus more on the obstacles, setbacks and challenges in life, and the journey itself rather than the end of the journey. Maybe they heard the faint whispers…. Impossible !!! Impossible…. That can never be done.
In the end we come to the conclusion that despite all of the great qualities and attributes, they were sorely lacking in the area where it counted most ,and that is in the mind. If the mentality is not right then greatness may as well be a distant star hovering in the galaxies with no means for its attainment.
