As someone who lives in Asia and is also a fan of TV show, The Biggest Loser, I was ecstatic to hear that the first ever The Biggest Loser Asia is going to be airing on Asian TV at the end of the year. Hallmark Channel will be producing its own version of the popular TV show with contestants from countries all over Asia. But, if you’re interested, how do you audition for the first season of The Biggest Loser Asia?
It’s actually quite simple. On the ground auditions will be held in four Asian cities in July and August, with 30 contestants being chosen by September 1st, 2009. Other interested Asian candidates can send in online auditions. So, if you’re interested in being a contestant on the first season of The Biggest Loser Asia, here is everything you need to know to make that dream come true.
Who Can Apply for The Biggest Loser Asia? – Anyone who lives in Asia, except for Japan, Australia and New Zealand can apply. You have to be between the ages of 18 to 55 to be accepted. Weird, because the US show has had a couple of contestants older than 55 and they’ve done very well.
On the Ground Auditions For The Biggest Loser Asia – There are four cities that will have on the ground auditions for the first season of The Biggest Loser Asia – Singapore, Jakarta Indonesia, Mandaluyong City in the Phillippines, and Selangor Malaysia. Auditions will be held at a Fitness First location (Fitness First is one of the sponsors of the show) and all would-be contestants need to take with them are a photo ID, a photo 10 x 15 cm, and wear exercise wear so you can do some mild exercises.
Online Auditions for The Biggest Loser Asia – You can audition online for the first season by registering online between June 22 and August 31, 2009. They ask for personal information such as name, nickname, current weight, how much weight you want to lose, are you proficient in English, are you a Fitness First member, a brief synopsis of your dieting history and a description of your favorite meal. Then you have to either upload a video of yourself telling why you want to be on the show, or record one with your webcam.
For applicants from Singapore, there is an extra section where they can write in the name and Fitness First member number of someone who is referring them. This actually leads me to be very suspicious of the TV show as the show The Amazing Race Asia did something similar and we ended up watching a group of idiot famous actors, actresses and TV presenters run the race. Hopefully, The Biggest Loser Asia won’t be giving people from Singapore an advantage, but it definitely sounds like they are. Plus, if a Fitness First member refers someone from Singapore and they get accepted on the show, the person who referred them wins $1,000. A bit unfair I think.
What Do You Win if You Win The Biggest Loser Asia? – The winner of the first season of The Biggest Loser Asia will win $100,000. This seems to be the norm for reality shows in Asia. Unlike the US, where most reality shows offer the winner $1 million, the Asian shows only give $100,000. This has always seemed odd to me as the number of viewers for these shows is much higher than in the US, simply because of how many people live in Asia.
Where and When Will The Show Be Filmed? – The first season of The Biggest Loser Asia will be filmed at a secret location in Malaysia. Filming will begin on October 1st, 2009, so if you do enter you need to make sure you can be in Malaysia by that date if you’re selected.
Who Will The Trainers Be? – No announcement about trainers has been made yet, other than to say “a team of trainers” will be training contestants. It will be interesting to see if the trainers they select will be as personable as the America team, and if they become as big a stars as the American trainers have.
