A 12 may not seem like a plus but on a shorter girl it could be a plus as a taller girl it could be a slim 12. Body style has a lot to do with it. Always dress according to your body style to look your best. Many times an outfit will be in a larger size but doesn’t mean it really looks good on a certain body style. For example if you have “junk in your trunk” do not where fabrics that will cling to your hind end. Tummy bulge issues? Wear tops that are more free flowing above the bulge. There are many ways to dress to look your best. Most teens think they need plastic surgery to look their best. This is simply not the case.
Many companies out there that sell plus sized clothing are in the need for pretty plus sized teens. You need to start with getting your portfolio together. Believe it or not your first portfolio does not have to cost a lot. You will need need several body shots and at least two very clear and good face shots. Think senior pictures in other words only a little more detailed. In your first portfolio you wouldn’t be using props in your photos as you do not want to take the viewers eyes away from the target and that would be you.
Now one of the most important questions. Do you need an agent? It’s not required to use an agent but then you will have all the leg work in finding employment and getting your foot in the door. If you are not a go getter type it may be best to find yourself a legitimate agent and let them do all your leg work. Either or, you will find rewarding times and not so rewarding times. Keep in mind there are a lot of scams in the modeling world and you need to keep on the look out, use your better judgment and do not let your excitement over power your good sense. So ask yourself why would they need to place an add in a newspaper? Answer: They wouldn’t!
To break into modeling remember its not cheap. You will need money for clothing, traveling, and money for casting when the time comes. Be prepared and know going in that certain things will cost you.
