For the beginner, applying make-up in general, much less foundation is a very confusing thing to do. Even the most experienced people tend to apply foundation wrong ending up with the “ghostly face” (if you don’t know what that means, it’s when a person’s face looks way lighter than their neck). Foundation should appear natural. Actually, no one should know that you’re are even wearing it. After applying foundation correctly, the only compliments about your make-up should be about how clear your skin looks.
What is Foundation and How Much Does It Cost?
If you’ve gotten this far, and you don’t even know what foundation is, it’s the make-up that is used to cover up uneven skin tone, or it makes the skin have a more youthful look. There are many places to buy it and many brands to choose from. I use Dermablend from Women’s Dillards. Prices can range from $5 to $50 or even more, depending on the quality. Typically if it’s picked correctly, it should be the color of your skin tone.
How to Choose the Correct Foundation
If you’re having trouble picking the correct foundation, or you always end up with a color that you thought was a good one only to go home to one that doesn’t match, this is how to pick the right one without a doubt. Going to a department store such as Macy’s or Dillards makes choosing a perfect foundation easy because the make-up counter attendant does all the work for you. The only thing is department store foundation is probably about $20 or more. If you’re looking to get a more affordable foundation try Walmart or your local pharmacy such as Walgreens or CVS. To match your own at one of these stores, put a dab of foundation on the colored side of your hand. Make sure there’s a wipe handy, so if it doesn’t match you can wipe it off and try another one. When you find the perfect match, don’t buy it just yet. Walk around the store for while until the foundation sets. Also, walk outside to see if the foundation still matches. If the foundation passes all the tests, buy it.
How to Apply Foundation
Now here’s the hard part. No, it’s actually really easy. Start by washing the face to get rid of any oil or dirt. Then, apply a face lotion as a base for the foundation. Get a little foundation onto the dark side of your hand and mix it a little. Now, apply it to your face dabbing it until you have full coverage. Applying make-up to your neck isn’t necessary just make sure it matches. After applying any other make-up such as eye-liner, concealer, eye shadow, or anything else, use a powder to maximize the time your makeup stays put.
Overall, finding a foundation and applying it is not as hard as it may seem, so there’s no excuse for foundation that doesn’t match. It can be used daily or just for going-out. Whatever it’s for, have fun and enjoy the compliments.
