When I first started out on my home based business journey, I had major problems with organization. I suddenly started to notice that although my home office was in a separate room, I was doing other household chores instead of just business. My first step to become a successful home based entrepreneur was to set my office boundaries. I needed to do my work oriented tasks strictly in my office and my home tasks in the other portions of my home. In order to accomplish this I decided to get organized and invest in work tools that would help me to succeed. I was able to do major research to get started and have a few expert pointers to share.
1. Find the right desk. Instead of purchasing a very expensive office desk, I was able to purchase a very long meeting table. Luckily, it was on sale for $20 and fitted my space perfectly. Despite the fact that it had a nice length, my office space did not look cramped or overcrowded. I had enough room to place all the necessary items for a home based business. After completing the set up for my new desk I was able to move about the office comfortably.
2. Find comfort. The next important factor in a home office is to have a comfortable chair. If it is not comfortable enough for you, then you will start wandering away from your work area. I was able to find a wonderfully comfortable chair that was adjustable. I also added a soothing chair massager for the days that I am feeling extremely stressed. Since I am on the phone all day, this feature comes in very handy during my breaks. No matter how irritated I may become, after two seconds with this massager I am joyful again.
3. Customize your office. All successful home offices need a fax, phone, printer, scanner, and copier. Instead of purchasing all of these items separately, make an investment with an all in one center. This will definitely solve any space issues that may arise. I purchased a Brother’s multifunction center 845cw. This turned out to be such an awesome investment because I can print, copy, scan, and fax with it. Another great benefit of this item is that it also comes with a cordless handset. I am not tied down to just one location in order to use it. Adding this all in one center to my network was extremely easy to do and I can print from any location in my home now.
4. Bringing it all together. The last step to complete the home office of my dreams was a superb computer. Considering the fact that I spend a lot of time in my home office, I decided to get a computer that can also double as a media center. Having the ability to record all my favorite shows right to my extra storage unit is very convenient. I no longer have to worry about missing a show and I don’t have to pay a monthly subscription to record. It seems as though I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Whenever I need a break from work, I can just access my recordings from any other room in comfort.
You can configure your home office in so many different ways. Just make sure that it is spacious enough for you to get all your work done. Setting up your home office with all the important tools to succeed will not be hard to do. Create a specific budget that you want to aim for so that you will not over spend. Remember you will be spending a lot of time in this area so make it your very own personal space.
