You booked the babysitter, dressed up and brought a hostess gift. It’s December 31st and you’re at the home of a relative or friend that you looked forward to ringing in the New Year with. You’re also sitting on the couch and counting the minutes until you can get home and put on your pajamas. Don’t let the evening become a bust without making a good effort to turn the New Year’s Eve party from a dud to a night you’ll always remember. Here are some fun ways to liven up a New Year’s Eve party and thoroughly enjoy yourself.
Play The Story Game. A great way for adults to loosen up and spend a fun New Year’s Eve is to play the story game. Each party guest must tell a short story about themselves according to what topic is chosen. Write the topics on small pieces of paper and have the hostess pull one out of a hat. Suggested topics are Most Embarrassing Moment, Scariest Experience, Best High School Memory, Funniest Mistake Made On A Job, etc. Spend some time before the party thinking of topics suitable for the party guests that will be sure to bring lots of laughs and help your fellow party goers relax and get comfortable with each other. A room full of people who don’t know each other very well is a sure party killer. By playing the story game, the guests will let their guard down and get to know each better in no time. I guarantee this game will bring tons of laughter and will turn the boring New Year’s Eve party into a night that everyone will not soon forget.
Bring Cd’s From Your Era. Bring along some Cd’s of music from your teenage years to the New Year’s Eve party. Chances are, most of the guests at the party will be in your age bracket and will enjoy hearing the tunes from their youth as much as you do. Music is a wonderful way to bring people together and spark memories from carefree times of the past. If you are like me and in your late thirties, drag out your Nirvana, Van Halen or any “hair” band Cd’s you still have collecting dust and bring them along. The other party guests will love the stroll down memory lane and will surely have a memory or two they would like to
Make Some Noise. Why should the kids have all the fun? When the clock strikes twelve, bang those pots and pans and blow those noisemakers. By partaking in the noisy and festive parts of New Year’s Eve you enjoyed as a kid, it will remind you of the festive nature of the occasion and encourage other party guests to do the same. Don’t go overboard and be sure to show consideration to the other party guests as well as your host’s neighbors, but by being a little silly and getting into the spirit of the occasion, you just may encourage the other guests to let their hair down as well.
Turn On The Charm. If the New Year’s Eve party you are attending is simply D.O.A, you just may be the one who has to save it. Dig deep and bring out your most outgoing and fun loving self. Take control of the room and go out of your way to engage the other party guests in lively conversation. Tell a joke, ask a provocative (but not offensive) question, or share a silly or interesting skill or talent. By taking the initiative and engaging the other guests at the party in an interactive activity or situation, you will salvage your New Year’s and end up having a wonderful time as well as being remembered as the life of the party.
