Turning your front yard into a Halloween graveyard is easy to do on a budget if you follow these simple steps to building your own Halloween gravestones. These Halloween gravestones are rebuild to last, so you can us ether year after year as Halloween yard decorations!
If you don’t have a yard you can easily use these Halloween grave stones inside for your Halloween party!
To Make Your Own Halloween Gravestone Yard Decorations You Will Need:
Mud or joint compound
Metal garden stakes (optional)
The first step is to have your sheets of plywood cut out the size you want yoru Halloween gravestones to be. I removed a size like 2 by 3 feet. You can decide though.
If you want you can use a jig saw to round out the top of the Halloween grave stone craft project or even cut out a cross on the top. Have a little fun here!
Now, go ahead and screw on the metal garden stakes to the back of the Halloween gravestone form. This will allow you to stab the Halloween gravestone into the ground and stand it up.
You can find garden stalks at the home improvement store. You can also use plumbing brackets to attach rebar to the back of the wood and use those as stakes.
Now, take your joint compound and spread some on a paint roller. Roll this on the surface of the plywood to create a concrete like texture to mimic a real grave stone.
You can also use a ceiling texture roller to do this step.
Let your Halloween gravestone yard décor dry.
Now, paint on a coat of the gray paint. While the gray paint is wet you can dab on some back to create shadows and a mottled cement effect.
Let this first coat of paint dry.
Now, once the gravestone is dry you can use black paint or really dark gray paint to write or engrave the Halloween gravestone.
Tip: Since this is Halloween yard decoration, you may wan to use an oil based exterior grade paint. This will last longer!
You can paint on “RIP, ” your name, “Happy Halloween,” and almost anything you want!
This simple Halloween gravestone craft project also makes great over the hill gravestones for a birthday party. If you know someone turning 40 or 50 this year, then try decorating his or her front yard with these gravestones!
Once all the paint is dry you can stab your Halloween gravestones in the yard and enjoy!
