These cute little treats are sure to be a hit for your family or Halloween party. They were for mine. In fact, I think I liked them more then my kids did! Very tasty and cute and easy to make.
For the pumpkin ball part, you will need:
6 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal
1 bag of small or large marshmallows (small marshmallows seemed to melt faster for me)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
Red food coloring
Yellow food coloring
Dec A Cake black writing gel
Cooking spray (for your hands!)
Use the directions on your box of Rice Krispies cereal. After your butter and marshmallows are melted, immediately put in your red and yellow food coloring so that it will turn orange. A medium to dark orange works best because the color dilutes somewhat when the cereal is added. Then add your cereal and stir it all up.
The mix will be hot but I found that it cools down quickly enough so that it is warm but you can still handle it without hurting yourself. The marshmallows make the mixture sticky so spray your hands with cooking spray as needed when making this. Take enough of the mixture into your hands to form a small ball. Make it into a ball shape as best as you can and go on to make another one. You will have to go back to the balls you make to reshape them so that they get firmer and hold the ball shape.
Now, for the stem part of the pumpkin, you will need:
2 cups Rice Krispies
1 1/2 tablespoon butter
2 cups of marshmallows
Green food coloring
Follow the directions on the cereal box for cooking. Add your green food coloring when the marshmallows and butter are melted. Spray your hands with cooking spray and mold a stem to put on top of your pumpkin. The stem will stick to the pumpkin ball just fine, you just have to press it on there without messing up your pumpkin ball. You can have your stem be curved or straight, depending on what look you like.
Now you are ready to put on your Jack-O-Lantern face. Take one pumpkin, grab your Dec a Cake Black Writing gel and draw on the pumpkin’s face. Make a spooky face, a happy face or whatever kind of face you want. The possibilities are endless.
These make a very fun treat to eat. I have to admit that these are my favorite. You can store the pumpkins in a bag but do not put on the faces if you’re going to store them because the faces will rub off on the bag and other pumpkins. Put the faces on right before you serve them.
