A lot of people tend to not like spinach. That same statement can be made in favor of those people who do like spinach. No matter if you like or dislike the vegetable, it is a known fact that it is incredibly important to a vegetarian diet. Everyone should make sure that they eat a lot of spinach to get a proper amount of iron into their systems. This dish combines spinach with lasagna, making the taste not as strong, but delivering a delicious meal in its place.
We are going to look at how to make Spinach Lasagna today. You are going to learn how to make a simple dish that is worth all the effort you put into it. Seasoning is very important to this dish and can drastically change how everything tastes in the end. Be careful to season proper amounts so that you still can taste the juiciness of the vegetables.
-1/2 cup butter, plus extra for greasing
-2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
-1/4 lb shallots
-1/2 lb exotic mushrooms, ex: chanterelles
-1 lb spinach, cooked, drained, and finely chopped
-2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
-1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
-1 tsp chopped fresh basil
-Scant 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
-2 1/2 cups of hot milk
-2/3 cup grated mellow hard cheese
-8 sheets precooked lasagna
-Salt and pepper
Your first step is rather simple to do. Make sure that you have a large oven proof dish in your possession. You are then going to take this oven proof dish and lightly grease it. The butter is what will be used to do this step. Grease the entire dish and set it off to the side for the next step to begin.
Melt 4 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet. Be careful because the butter often spits up from the skillet. You will then add the garlic, shallots, and exotic mushrooms to your pan. Slowly saute the contents over a low heat, remembering to stir frequently for about 3 minutes. Your next step will be to stir in the spinach, cheddar cheese, nutmeg, and basil. Season with salt and pepper for better taste.
The next step requires that you melt the remaining butter in another skillet. You will do this over a low heat. Quickly add the flour and cook it into the contents while stirring constantly. Do this for about 1 minute. Gradually stir in the hot milk as well, whisking constantly until everything is all smooth. You will then stir in 1/4 cup of mellow hard cheese and season to taste with salt and pepper.
Spread half of the mushroom and spinach mixture over the bottom of the prepared dish. Cover with a layer of half the lasagna sheets and then with half of the cheese sauce. Repeat the layering process, then sprinkle over the remaining mellow hard cheese. Then bake in a preheated oven, at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, for around 30 minutes of time. Just make sure that you bake until the topping is golden brown and bubbling. Serve the dish hot and enjoy!
