Also, you must have made your primary residence within the borders of Greece for a period of 10 years in the last 12 years before your application is submitted. You will also have to be able to show that you are fluent in the official language, which is Greek. And you will have to demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of Greek history and the Greek civilization. You can also become a Greek citizen by means of marriage. Marriage to a Greek citizen is by all means the easiest and quickest way to obtain Greek citizenship. If you marry someone that is a Greek citizen or if your spouse becomes a Greek citizen, then you have the ability to apply for citizenship without having to go through the entire naturalization process.
There are also other ways to obtain Greek citizenship. Foreigners that are of Greek origin who attend military schools or enlist to the armed forces as volunteers in Greece automatically obtain Greek citizenship just from their admission to military school or enlistment. There is also a special class for Olympic athletes. Olympic athletes that have resided in Greece for 5 years within the last 12 years can obtain Greek citizenship if they are entitled to compete on the equivalent Greek national team.
When you are ready to submit your application for Greek citizenship, you will take it to the Municipality of the place of your residence. From there it will go to the Minister of the Interior of Public Administration and Decentralization for review. You will also need to have a few other things with your application. You will need a declaration for naturalization, which will need to have been signed in front of 2 Greek witnesses, a copy of your passport, a copy of your residence permit, your birth certificate and a certificate from the tax authorities or your income tax statement from the last financial year.
