Downtown Disney is the perfect spot to manage your Christmas shopping and spend a few hours exploring even more of the Disney-themed attractions. You might even indulge with a holiday-themed dessert at the restaurants in the marketplace. Holiday season at Downtown Disney means you’ll walk into a winter wonderland in true Disney style; with each storefront decorated in a Christmas theme and carolers and characters running about, it’s easy to see why this place is popular around Christmastime. When you’re ready to take a break from the parks, here’s how to spend your Christmas vacation at Downtown Disney:
Shop at the Disney Store. This is one of the largest Disney stores in Orlando, and it’s filled with Christmas-themed merchandise. Take your pick of Santa hats with Mickey logos, or just an oversized Mickey toy decked out as Santa himself. This is the only time of year where all the character toys are dressed up in festive fashions, and you can easily pick up a few stocking stuffers for last-minute gifts you might need.
Sing with the carolers. You’ll find dozens of carolers roaming marketplace after sundown, and you can join in the fun by singing along to your favorites. Just put on your Santa hat and fa-la-la along!
Stick around for the tree-lighting ceremony. After Thanksgiving Day celebrations subside, it’s time to put up the tree and get into the Christmas spirit! Each night at 6:30 p.m., you can take part in an official tree lighting ceremony in the center of the marketplace. Just make your way over with a mug of hot cocoa for your memorable experience.
Visit with Santa. Santa sets up his own chalet outside the Disney store each year. He’s available to chit-chat and negotiate your gifts from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. all the way through Christmas.
Shop at Disney’s Days of Christmas. Even though it’s Christmas all year round at this treasure trove of holiday goodies, Christmas season calls for a few special gifts. Here you’ll find plenty of collectibles, Disney collector pins, and a few personalized gifts if you need something unique.
Take a boat ride. If you want to make the most of your trip to Downtown Disney, hop onto the boats that chart across the lake between the east and west side. You’ll get a great view of the holiday lights from afar, and it’s a great way to just sit back and enjoy a scenic ride.
Get your purchases gift-wrapped. Don’t stress about gift-wrapping your roundup this year; just let the Disney elves do all the hard work so you can enjoy the rest of your day exploring! Gift-wrapping services are available at most stores, and a few vendor stands scattered throughout the marketplace.
From caroling to visiting with Santa, there’s plenty of festive fun to be had in Downtown Disney. Just set your sights on this free spot (minus your shopping escapades) for a great Disney experience over Christmas!
