Contemporary bathroom vanities that look like a piece of furniture are a huge trend in bathrooms today. Unfortunate, try to buy the contemporary bathroom vanities can cost a pretty penny or two.
You can easily transform and existing dresser or even a night stands into a contemporary bathroom vanity with tons of styles and very little money.
To Turn a Dresser Into a Contemporary Bathroom Vanity You Will Need:
Ok, of course you will want to measure your bathroom first to see what size dresser you can use for the contemporary bathroom vanity. Simply measure how wide your space is.
Now, on to the transformation. Simply go ahead and remove all the drawers form the dresser.
Now, in the back you will need to use the jug saw to cut out an opening for the plumbing to slide into the contemporary bathroom vanity.
To do this measure where your plumbing is on the wall. Mark out where this will corresponded with the dresser when it is in place.
Now, jig saw out that opening. Go ahead and sand any rough edges just to make it look professional.
Now, to install the sink you have a few options. If you are using a traditional slide in sink that rests on the counter, all you need to do is trace the opening, just like you would on a regular bathroom counter. Use the jigsaw again to cut out this opening.
Now, if you want to use a contemporary bowl type sink, then read your instructions on the sink. Determine what hole is needed for the sink plumbing and go ahead and cut this out now.
Now, once any jigsaw cutting is finished you are ready to sand and prime out yoru contemporary bathroom vanity.
Seal the piece with a oil based primer. Once the primer has dried you can apply a few coats of any paint color you wish. I recommend a shiny oil base paint so it can resist water damage and clean easily.
Now, slide the contemporary dresser into place.
Install you plumbing as before and you are finished!
If you are working in a small bathroom and trying to make a contemporary bathroom vanity out of a smaller piece of furniture, like a nightstand, make sure the free standing piece of furniture is tall enough to be comfortable when in use.
You can always height on by adding another layer on top cut out of a piece of plywood or birch. You can also add one bun feet, pre made metal legs, or pre made wood legs to add height to a nightstand that does not have legs!
