Poker tables are so expensive, but thank goodness for the DIY rage sweeping America! You can take an existing wood or laminate table and easily turn it into a poker table worthy of the most high rolling poker night!
So, break out that jig saw and get ready for some weekend DIT fun learning how to make a poker table!
To Turn an Existing Table Into a Poker Table You Will Need:
1 round or Square wood or laminate table
1 sheet of MDF
Green Felt (by the yard) (other options to be discussed)
Sp, to get started of course you need an existing to used wood table. I always come across super cheap wood and laminate tables at the local Goodwill, flea markets and of course at yard sales. You may also know someone who has an old table they want to get rid of. Rectangle tables are not the best hope for this project.
So, measure hoe wide your existing wood or laminate table is. Add about 4 to 6 inches on to this.
Now, trace out this square out on yoru MDF.
Now, use a straight edge and a pencil to trace out an octagon or hexagon on the MDF. You can always cut out a circle if you want. There is no law that says a poker table ha to be a certain shape.
You can also simply use the existing top of your wood or laminate table and cover it using the following directions. But if you do want a traditional poker table, starting marking out those sides, break out the jig saw and cut away the excess.
Now, lay out your green felt. You may need to iron it on a low heat first. Just be sure all wrinkle and fold lines are gone.
Now, back to laying out your green felt. So, take you can of spray adhesive (do this outside) and lightly spray the top of your wood table or the MDF cut out.
Spray evenly and get a good coat on there.
Now, lay the green felt in place. Use your hands to smooth the green felt over the poker tabletop surface.
Work out to the edges. Now, use a little spray glue on the edges and then wrap the felt around the edges.
Have a friend help your flip the table top over face down.
Now, you will need a staple gun or upholstery tacks to tack the fabric onto the underside of the table.
Be sure to trim away excess fabric. You will also want to fold corners as you work your way around the poker tabletop edges to make sure they are neat.
Now, once the felt is in place let the glue dries for a little while.
While the glue is drying on your DIY poker table top use your power drill to drill four to 8 holes through the existing table top of yoru wood table.
Now, place your poker table top on top. Use the power drill to slightly drill through the hole you made and partially into the MDF.
Now, use those wood screws to screw the Poker table top into place from underneath the existing table.
Now you are ready to start painting your homemade poker table. Use the painter’s tape to tape off any lines.
You can get inspiration from your favorite poker websites, poker TV shows, or poker tables you have seen. You can also create your own custom design on the poker table top! Try your school letters, favorite sports team, or more.
Use fabric paint to paint the felt. Be sure to let the fabric paint dry for at least 24 hours before you use your homemade DIY poker table!
