“Never Use the Ouija alone!” is a statement uttered with foreboding in horror movies. It was included in one of the best Ouija board movies in recent memory, “Witchboard.” And so, despite the lack of any basis in reality, it has become a popularly held belief that Ouija boards are dangerous if used alone.
In reality, Ouija boards are safely used by anyone who does not suffer from mental illness. And they are certainly more safely used alone than they are when they are used with people are not mentally healthy or who are full of fear.
Fundamentally, Ouija boards, whether manufactured by Parker Brothers or hand made, are simply wood, fibers, plastic, glass, paint and whatever ordinary substances go into their construction. In and of themselves they do not possess any special qualities.
Only when they are concentrated upon by directed human consciousness do they become a medium for interdimensional communication. And, then only if the sitter is of sufficient quietude of mind and relaxed focus.
Many people achieve good results with the Ouija board alone when they, with good intentions, hold in their minds the particular entity they wish to communicate with. One instance involves a young woman who received messages of comfort and advice from her grandmother who had passed on. She regularly communicated with the spirit of her grandmother and only her grandmother through a particularly Ouija that served as a medium for their contact.
It is not necessary to perform any ritual or do anything special to prepare for a session with the Ouija board. But, you will have the best results by being healthy and in a state of relaxed alertness. Retire to a quiet room, take the phone off the hook and remove any other potential distractions.
You might want to bring along a recording device to record your session. If you make contact, your will have proof and you will be able to play the tape back. Also, there is the possibility of receiving an EVP communication. EVP stands for “electronic voice phenomenon” wherein disembodied voices can be heard communicating on a recorder.
Make sure the feet of the planchette are clean and that the Ouija board is free of dust. A soft, dry towel will sufficiently wipe away dust or fingerprints so that the planchette can glide freely. Sit with the board on your lap. Place one or both hands lightly on the planchette. It is imperative that you are comfortable and relaxed.
Ask if the person you want to speak to is available. If you receive no answer in fifteen minutes to half an hour, then put the board away and try another time. Many factors play into the availability of spirits, including sunspot activity and the question of astrological timing. Sometimes, it just is not the right time or the right outside conditions. As with any endeavor, persistence eventually pays off.
Be consistent in your sessions. Sittings held at the same time every evening or every week tend to yield the best results.
