Most women have dreamed about their perfect wedding at some point in their lives. Whether it was when she was eight and she forced the little boy next door to pretend to be her groom, or it was on a first date with a special guy who she thought could be “the one,” she wants the white gown and five-tier cake. It is only after she’s sure that you’re the guy for her that she begins to also fantasize about the marriage proposal. Doing something truly special and unique can make the marriage proposal as special as the wedding day.
If you are planning on proposing marriage, one idea is to start by asking some of the men in your family and circle of friends how they proposed marriage. You shouldn’t copy their methods, but their marriage proposals can provide ideas about how you can create your own special day. One of the most popular ways to propose marriage is to place the ring inside food or a drink. This is nice, but be careful that it is obvious enough that she doesn’t swallow, choke on, or break a tooth on the ring. If it sticks out the top of a cupcake or is tied onto the neck of a bottle of champagne, it should be safe. But if you want to create a truly special experience, read on.
A hot air balloon ride can make your proposal a romantic, memorable event. The hot air balloon is special enough, but if you can enlist your friends and family to create a sign on the ground that the balloon’s pilot can fly over, it would be even better. You will have to do a bit of leg work to design and build the sign, find out from the hot air balloon company where you can place it, and instruct your friends on how to hold it or put it together so it will be seen by your intended. You should be prepared with the ring, of course at just the right moment – be sure to hold on tightly so it doesn’t flip over the side!
Recreating a first date or another special time in your relationship can also prove to be a special event for a marriage proposal. If your first date was at a dive restaurant on the outskirts of town, you may be able to set up a romantic dinner at the same place, but rent the entire restaurant and pay a band to play romantic music. Change the lighting, have flowers placed around the dining area, and try to have the kitchen serve the same meal you had on your first date.
Ladies like to feel special, and there is no better way to make her feel special than to make your marriage proposal in front of a large crowd. If you are sports fans, you can do it in a crowded stadium by renting a spot on the scoreboard (just make sure she is as much a fan as you are.) Take her to see her favorite band, and set it up so that the lead singer asks her for you during the performance. Another idea is to work with your friends to set up a party under the guise that it is for a totally different event. Have a miniature stage set up or stand on a chair shortly after the party gets started and reveal the real reason for the event.
No matter how you do it, a marriage proposal should be special, memorable, and personal to your wife-to-be. If your proposal is successful, she will tell everyone about it for years to come.
