The way your lawn looks impacts the overall look and value of your home. If you are trying to sell your home, or if you just want to spruce up the look of your yard, then you need to take steps to improve the healthy and look of your yard. One way to improve the look of your lawn is to use the As Seen on TV product “Patch Perfect.”
What is Patch Perfect
Patch Perfect is a special type of grass seed. Each grain of grass seed has been cocooned in a fertilizer. This cocoon not only provides each seed with nutrients to help it grow, but it also holds moisture in to provide the seed with the water that it needs to sprout and grow strong. Patch Perfect needs to be purchased through a mail order company or online store and it costs about $15 to $20 per bag. Each bag will cover about 100 square feet.
Preparing Your Lawn
While the commercials for Patch Perfect say that the seed can grow anywhere, even where there is no dirt, you are going to get the best results if you prepare the soil before seeding it. The first step is to loosen the top 1 to 1 ½ inches of your top soil. This can be done using a rotor-tiller, a hoe or a garden claw. Next you will want to remove any weeds and rocks from the area.
Seeding the Lawn
After your soil has been prepared you will want to open your bags of Patch Perfect. You can scatter the seed with your hands or you can dump the bag into a seed scatter funnel. The way that you scatter the seed is going to depend on what type of lawn problem you have:
1. If you are trying to correct a urine stain from pets or a bare spot caused by dogs running up and down the length of your fence, then you will want to apply the seeds in a thicker layer.
2. If you are trying to reseed your entire lawn, or if you are trying to thicken your lawn, then you will want to spread the seeds out using a seed scatter funnel.
3. If your dogs like to dig in your yard then you will want to fill the hole first with dirt so that it is level, and then you will want to apply a generous amount of seed to the spot.
Watering Your Patch Perfect Seeds
After you have scattered your Patch Perfect seeds you will want to liberally water your lawn. You will want to thoroughly soak your seeds, but you don’t want to move the seed. Therefore you will want to use a sprinkler or a gentle setting on your hand sprayer. Over the next four to six weeks you will want to water your seeds twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. This will help the seed to germinate, it will protect them from frost, and it will protect them from dehydration. You will want to keep this up until your seedlings sprout and have taken hold.
