If you are like many other busy professionals who spend a lot of time online you might find yourself browsing MySpace in pursuit of finding that special someone. Once you have clicked through a number of racy pictures you send a not that says something like “Hi…I’m Bobby and I think you look great!” The next day the girl sends you a scathing note about how much a loser you are.
The anonymous nature of MySpace allows people to treat each other rudely because there is no natural consequence. In other words, if they talked to you like that in a public area people would look, you might embarrass them or scold them for their behavior. However, on MySpace they could simply say what they want and ignore you.
The other problem is that many of the women on MySpace are very young and have a predefined notion of what they want. If your pictures aren’t the “hottest” thing on the net you aren’t likely to get much response. There is lots of competition in the looks department as these same women might be able to search for their ideal looking date. In other words, since you can’t determine someone’s personality on the net you focus on physical appearance only.
In addition, there are lots of stories of freaks, rapists, murderers and crazies running around the net. This as well as the number of emails these girls get from people who want nothing but a real taste of the pictures they see are likely to make most woman very cautious of new contacts. It kind of makes you wonder why they are on MySpace at all. Yet there they are everyday talking to the people who have made it through their invisible force field.
Imagine yourself as one of two women per every 20 men. You wouldn’t be very excited to meet people either. Of course these woman are there to meet people just like woman who go to a bar aren’t there talk about their children. If a woman finally decides to meet you make sure it is a public place where there are lots of people (i.e. Starbucks). It will help them and you feel comfortable. If she doesn’t look anything like the pictures you can skip out of there quickly.
Despite the draw backs you might still be interested in finding woman on MySpace simple because it is convenient. Here is some advice that you might want to consider as you picking your browsing criteria. Start the first message with something funny and respectful. That way they think your taking the internet lightly, you appear fun to be with and you are opening in a positive tone. If you get rejected simply respond, “I’m sorry you feel that way” and move on. They might just wonder why you aren’t begging for their attention.
