Jeff Archuleta, the father of American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta, was charged with soliciting a massage parlor prostitute, according to Fox13Now.com. Jeff Archuleta was fined $582 after pleading “no contest” to the charge.
Midvale (Utah) Police report that they conducted a raid on January 24. “We observed the short stay traffic,” explained Midvale Police Sergeant John Salazar, “we observed the minimal dress so we thought something was up, so then we went in force.”
At the time of the raid, six officers entered a Reiki massage parlor, where they discovered one man being serviced. That man was Jeff Archuleta.
According to Radar Online, Salazar said that the Archuleta was there for sexual gratification. “The male customer received sexual gratification at the hands of the masseuse,” he said. “During the questioning, he said he’d found the place on Craig’s List. He was asked if he’d received any sexual services and he said he had.”
With Jeff Archuleta’s alleged confession and the waiving of his right to counsel, he was cited and released. But his attorney, Eric Bauer, later said, “Oh, I don’t know what those police officers say, I mean, who knows what they say. He did not go there for sex and that was it and pure, plain and simple that’s the way it was.” Bauer says Archuleta never was touched by the masseuse and was in there for a back problem. He also said that Archuleta was a good man and he hoped that the story wouldn’t cause his family too much embarrassment.
It may not have if the news services hadn’t picked it up. There’s little doubt that there will be some embarrassment involved now.
But David Archuleta is probably used to embarrassment where his father is concerned. Jeff Archuleta became famous as David Archuleta’s controlling, overbearing father. In fact, the elder Archuleta became one of the American Idol Season 7 scandals when he was barred from backstage.
TMZ and the Associated Press reported that Jeff Archuleta was banned from going backstage during the finals preparation because he was interfering with the production. One source said that he had attempted to get his son to alter his rendition of “Stand By Me” by adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” something the American Idol producers said caused trouble with the song’s publishers.
Ultimately, there was no good resolution to this somewhat sordid tale, literally or figuratively. Jeff Archuleta was caught and fined and, according to his attorney, untouched by the masseuse he was accused of soliciting. The massage parlor was shut down. It has not reopened.
