There are fantastic Independence Day celebrations in downtown Chicago, including Taste of Chicago at Grant Park and the fireworks at Navy Pier. There are also excellent festivals and fireworks extravaganzas in the suburban area of Chicago.
The towns and cities around Chicago will be holding their own fireworks displays, with the explosions of colored light brightening the sky. Drive through the suburbs on the highway and it is possible to see fireworks shows from all directions.
Some of the towns surrounding Chicago are having excellent festivals with food, music, entertainment and fireworks. Following are some of the best suburban festivals in the Chicagoland area.
Naperville Ribfest: June 30 – July 4. 20 restaurant will compete for best ribs and sauce. Participants include Armadillo’o Rib BBQ Co., Famous Dave’s. BBQ, Chicago BBQ and Desperado BBQ & Rib Co. There will be entertainment and family activities.

Arlington Heights, Illinois is celebrating it’s 32nd Frontier Days Festival From Wednesday, July 4 to Sunday, July 8. Arlington Heights is a northwest suburb of Chicago and is located just north of the Woodfield Shopping area in Schaumburg. Festivities include a parade at 10 am on July 4, bingo, and an arts & crafts marketplace.

Food vendors include Valli’s, Latte Ladies, Ashby’s Sterling serving Ice Creon, Peggy Kinnanes, Boston Blackies, Sweet Baby Ray’s, Wing Wahs, Tuccio’s more. There will be free shuttles fro transportation to and from area parking lots.
Arlington Park Racetrack in Arlington Heights. features live horse racing at the $200,000 Stars and Strips Breeders Cup. Post time at 1 pm. All day holiday activities include pony rides, face painters and a petting zoo. Live music by piano man.
In the evening there will be live music from Four Man Band The biggest fireworks display in the suburbs is presented by LaSallie Bank.
Wheeling Freedom Fest: July 3-4. Wheeling is home to more four and five stars restaurants than any other suburban zip code in the country. The famed restaurants set up “Restaurant Row” with booths and tastings from their famous menu. The food is great. There is also live entertainment, rock band and national headliners.

On Wednesday evening the annual July 4.parade kicks off at 6 pm. The festival will conclude on Wednesday night at 9:30 pm with a spectacular show of fireworks.
Lisle Community Park Eyes to the Skies Balloon Festival July 30 features hot air balloon launches, live music, children’s activities , carnival and nightly fireworks. Admission $10, $1 fro children 5-12) .
Itasca Independence Day celebration features live music by Peter Frampton, food beverages and a fireworks display.
Oak Park Fireworks features a parade at 10 am. Live music by Patti Ecker is at noon. Fireworks dusk.
Lake Forest 4th of July Celebration: Deerpath Community Park Lake Forest, IL: The nation’s birthday is commemorated in a big way with a celebration that includes live music from the main stage followed by a fireworks show. People bring their own beverages, or there are some available for purchase.
Evanston’s July 4 festivities start with a 2: pm parade and lake front musical performance. Fireworks extravaganza will begin 9:15 pm.
