Many golfers feel that since they only play once or twice a month that they can get away with buying clubs from a big box retail store. They look at price only and pay little attention to what they are getting other than what is stamped on the shiny box the clubs come in.
90% of the time these clubs will do more of a miss-service to the player than do any good. I am here to tell you that it is very possible to get a custom set of golf equipment fit to you and you alone, along with recommendations for golf balls to use for a lot less than you might have thought.
Golf Pros and Club Makers like myself have many resources when it comes to golf equipment so we can always find something in your budget. You can spend as little as $300 for the whole package or in the thousands depending on what you are looking for. There is a company that I deal with that makes original high performing products at half the cost of the major club manufacturers and I can fit a customer with any shaft and grip and make adjustments to those clubs based on my first hand, in person interview and fitting.
Not everyone swings the same, not everyone is built the same so why buy clubs that are not made for you? Going the custom club route not only gets you fit for equipment that will help your game, but it also says a lot about your sense of style. You can choose from hundreds of head designs, shaft colors, and more popular in the recent years, grips. Grips with your own logo on them, favorite sports team, colors etc. There are even companies that will paint your wood heads any way you would like them! You are one of a kind, why should your equipment be any less?
Going to a Pro is usually the best option, they will be more honest than a retail sales person just trying to push sales. You will go though a series of fitting methods and a few demo irons to narrow down what type of shafts, grip size, loft, lie etc. you should be using. From there you can go through all the different heads, shafts and grips that are in your fitting range and make your choice from there. The Pro will order the components assemble them exactly to your specs and have them ready to play in about a week. Myself, I will also throw in a free lesson when the clubs come in. I will also make recommendations after the lesson to the player to find a ball that will work better for them. Do they need more distance? More spin? Cheaper? There are dozens of balls to fit everyone’s game and price point as well.
If you are looking for a way to spend some time this Winter, go to a Pro, or get a hold of me on line. We can help get you squared away to start playing the best golf of your life!
