Do you believe in ghosts? Many residents of Maine have made reports of seeing, feeling, hearing and being touched by those beyond the grave.
Androscoggin County, Poland, Maine
At the Poland Spring Inn, guests and employees have claimed to witness the apparition of a former owner roaming about the establishment. Others have reported hearing voices close by when they were the only ones in the room. And, many have claimed that their belongings have been moved to odd places after they had left their rooms.
Cumberland County, Freeport, Maine
At the Buttons and Things shop, employees have claimed to hear footsteps walking on the floor above or up the stairs when no one was there. Many have also said they felt as if someone was watching them, fleeting cold spots throughout the shop and the chimes on the door ringing for no reason.
Cumberland County, Gorham, Maine
At the Southern University of Maine, students and faculty members have claimed to hear disembodied footsteps behind them, as well as footsteps in the empty attic area. Many have reported cold spots and objects moving about on their own. Lights, televisions, stereos and other various electrical equipment turns on and off without any help from the living.
Franklin County, Farmington, Maine
At the University of Maine, the Mallet Hall Dorm is said to be haunted by the apparition of a small girl. Many have reported seeing the ghostly child wandering the hallways and she is thought to be responsible for doors that open and close by themselves, as well as, moving objects about dorm rooms and stacking furniture up. Also, in the basement of this building, many have claimed to see a shadowy figure and most students won’t step foot down there.
LincolnC ounty, Wiscasset, Maine
In a private residence on Water Street, owners have claimed that their home is infested with poltergeist. The Water Street home owners have experienced large objects being thrown at them, objects being moved while they were in the room or right after they had exited and they have reported seeing shadowy mists that take a human-type form in their attic and on the stairs.
York County, Kennebunkport, Maine
In the Jane Morgan home, witnesses have claimed to see lights flickering in the house when no one was home. During the winter months when the owners are away, neighbors have described footprints in the snow all around the house.
