My husband’s health has been generally good. However the other day we were at the store and they had one of those machines that measure your level of blood pressure. His was higher than normal. He told me blood pressure tends to run high in his family. I told him, “Your too young to have high blood pressure.” He said, “Your blood pressure can be high at any age.” I knew what he was saying was true. I told him we had better figure out what can be done to reduce his blood research. After talking with a medical doctor and doing some of our won research we found some wonderful methods that can help reduce blood pressure.
Prescribed medication. There is medication that doctors do recommend for someone who has high blood pressure. I have talked with friends who have used the medication and have noticed a big difference after a few months. My husband doesn’t like taking medication so he was attracted to the more natural approaches for reducing blood pressure.
Practice progressive muscle relation. This is a wonderful technique that involves tensing and releasing different muscle groups in your body. The focusing on the different muscle groups works to reduce the blood pressure. My husband uses this technique when he is in a stressful situation. So the focus is on relaxing and not what is causing the stress. You can buy progressive relaxation tapes from your local book or music store.
Incorporating some exercise in your daily life. Many times of exercise are great in reducing stress and blood pressure. My all time favorites are the ones such as jogging that get you breathing in and out. My husband enjoys lifting a few weights while he breaths slowly in and out. It seems to calm his mind and body.
Eating good foods. Eating healthy such as fruits and vegetables are known to be very healthy for the body. The doctor suggested for my husband to avoid red meats, sugar and unhealthy fats. Instead whole grains, fiber, starch and a muli vitamin should be a part of his diet.
Avoid unhealthy habits. Unhealthy habits such, as drinking alcohol, smoking and drugs should be eliminated for health in general. Such deadly habits can increase blood pressure. Most of the time people drink alcohol, smoke and take drugs because they are stressed. Instead acquire healthy habits such as herbal tea, vegetable juice and deep breathing exercises to calm the body.
After a few months of using these different techniques my husband noticed a big drop on the level of his blood pressure. I feel better knowing that by taking preventive measures his risks of kidney disease, heart attack and stroke are less likely to occur which is common among people who have high blood pressure.
