GameStop is offering the Madden NFL 10 Super Bowl XLIII rematch demo exclusively to those who reserve the game early.
The Madden franchise is, without a doubt, the biggest sports franchise in the gaming industry. The long-storied series started in 1988 with the release of John Madden Football. The games feature legendary football coach and broadcaster, John Madden, and are about simulating the sport in a virtual environment. “John” was dropped from the title starting with the release ofMadden NFL ’94.
Madden NFL games didn’t really take off in popularity until the arrival of the Playstation 2. The video game system ended up capturing a majority of the mass market and, as a result, became the best-selling video game system of all time. With such a huge install base, Madden NFL strived on the Playstation 2.
It also helped that publisher and developer Electronic Arts had no real competition with Madden NFL. Tecmo Super Bowl was more of an arcade title than a simulated experience of football. Not to mention that Madden NFL handily defeated Sony’s NFL GameDay series on the Playstation.
The toughest competition came in the form of NFL 2K. The two popular series battled for years until 2005. Electronic Arts signed an exclusive licensing with the NFL and the NFL Players Association. This promptly and effectively ended the NFL 2K series and left the Madden NFL series as the only one remaining for the foreseeable future. Electronic Arts may have taken a lot of heat from this deal, but it was worth the effort financially.
Now they have another exclusive deal in place regarding the Madden franchise. The demo to the upcoming Madden NFL 10 can only be acquired through GameStop. To get in on the demo, you must preorder at a GameStop store before supplies runs out. You will then get a code in the middle of July. At the end of the same month, you should be able to redeem the code and download the demo from the Playstation Store of the Playstation 3 or Xbox Live Marketplace of the Xbox 360.
The Madden NFL 10 Super Bowl XLIII rematch demo will let you play the entire contest (with four 5 minute quarters) between the Pittsburg Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals. It is unknown if Electronic Arts will put the demo of Madden NFL 2010 at a later date up (or in a different version) for the rest of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers who didn’t preorder the upcoming title.
Madden NFL 2010 will be released on August 14th for the Nintendo Wii, PSP, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
