A remake of the popular 70’s television show The Bionic Woman will be having its season premiere on September 26th 8/9 central pm on NBC. This new premiere will be one of the favorites amongst television watchers this fall. Will it satisfy fans of the original?
Lindsay Wagner played the original character of Jaime Sommers. Wholesome and athletic, she suffered a horrific accident. Thanks to the technology that her fiance Steve Austin (The Six Million Dollar Man) had undergone, she became bionic too. The series continued successfully for a couple years and still has loyal fans.
The remake is darker than the original. Special effects have come a long way since the 70’s so obviously, they will be much better. In a preview of the show, Jaime Sommers (actress Michelle Ryan) is shown leaping across a building Matrix style (without the leather) in the dreary dark of night, to test our her new bionic capabilities.
British actress Michelle Ryan plays Jamie Sommers. A brunette rather than Lindsay Wagner’s natural blonde, the new Jaime character is noticeably more tormented than the original. The love interest, neurologist Will Anrhros, played by actor Chris Bower, helps create the bionic Jamie, refusing to allow her to die from fatal injuries.
The series starts off where the old series ended. Jamie left her little sister behind after her mother died. Trying to make it on her own as a college student, and working as a bartender to pay the bills, the story unfolds into how Jamie becomes bionic. Once bionic, she has new enemies she must deal with. A seriously unfriendly bionic woman, who calls herself “The First Bionic Woman” tries to kill Jaime Sommers, and provides some thrilling fight scenes.
Actor Miguel Ferrer plays bad guy Jonas Bledsne. Miguel has played a leading role in the television series Crossing Jordan as a forensic team director and also had a role in the film Traffic which starred veteran actor Michael Douglas and his wife Catharine Zeta-Jones.
Molly Price, the talented actress who played police offer Faith Yokus in Third Watch, is part of the series cast. Molly has also appeared in Without a Trace as the sister of Samantha (Poppy Montgomery).
An enticing combination of action and drama, mixed with exciting special effects, The Bionic Woman will please both old and new fans. Make sure to be in front of your television on September 26th. You won’t be disappointed.
