As some of you may know I work in a long term care facility, and I have seen our seniors come in and they are on so much medicines it is unreal. Granted they need some of it, but I wonder if they need it all. When they get an infection, they usually can not take antibiotics like we do, instead most of the time they get very strong antibiotics through an intravenous drip.
Why is this? Simply it is because they have grown a tolerance to everything less potent. I think that is so sad, that we have grown to use to modern medicine that we have to resort to that sort of thing. So what is the alternative? It’s all natural herbs, which have been around since the days when this world first began turning. It is rare to reach the non-tolerant level to which natural meds will not work
Thomas Edison once said. “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Now if Thomas Edison believed this way back then, it was a big thing for people to seek out natural remedies to what ever ailed them back in the day. There were few doctors so people had to rely on word of mouth and home remedies to get themselves through the hard times.
That is the approach I take in regards to my migraines well in a way I do. I use feverfew which is an all natural supplement for any migraines that begin at home, but for those that rarely strike at work I have to use my combination of Tylenol, aspirin and caffeine. How ever no matter where I am I use natural things such as cold or heat to help it along. I also know what triggers my migraines so I limit my intake of those food items but I can’t really control the environmental causes as much as I’d like too. I believe the herbs work better, my body tolerates them better but sometimes I need the readily availability of modern medicine.
We all know that from our early elementary school days that doctors were rarity back then. We could also deduct that if they were using some of the same things naturalists use these days that they must have worked. So why don’t more people use these natural remedies in this modern day and age? Simply it is because the natural remedies have not been passed down and we’ve become too dependent on modern medicines.
There are plenty of web sites out here that will educate the new naturalist, in every aliment from a to z. You just need to know where to find reliable, trustworthy information you can use to help yourself and the ones you love.
Just for the record I do use both natural herbs and modern medicine, and I do feel that is a good approach to take here. It would be as fool hardy to use only modern medicine as it would be to use natural medicine. I feel they both have a place in today’s society.
You might be surprised to know how many adults around the world take vitamin C in high doses during a cold. It is very common, and it works a lot better then those over the counter cold and flue remedies. Treatment should include as much vitamin C as you can take, without getting diarrhea, this varies for everyone but I recommend 2,500 milligrams at a time. Do this no more then 3 times a day for a regular cold but if it’s really bad try doing 1,000 milligrams every other hour rather then doing 2500 three times a day. If our fellow humans are doing it then why shouldn’t you? It is also to your advantage to pop some garlic tablets as you take your vitamin c because garlic is a well know germ fighter as well.
Now that summer is around the corner, no doubt heat exhaustion will also be on the rise. Most people will grab water and drink it heavily which is great but water alone will not do the trick here. You need to replace the electrolytes you lose with heat exhaustion so to replace the lost electrolytes drink lots of natural fruit and vegetable juices. You’ll see that you will feel better. What is the prevention here? Stay inside or at least in the shade when the sun is at its worst peak which is 10 am to 2 pm where ever you maybe.
Enjoy your summer and also look at my other articles which maybe of interest to you.
