Moms, have you ever wondered how much your work is worth? According to a recent press release, a mom’s work is worth $135,000 if we were paid to do the work we do at home! That’s a $5,000 increase from last year.
Ask any mom what she “does all day,” and she’ll likely chuckle and give you a look that would make you think you were crazy!
A married woman with children probably has her daily routine down. Wake up, shower, wake up the kids, fix breakfast, make sure kids are ready for school, serve breakfast and clean up the dishes, WHEW! Am I done yet? Oh wait, it’s not even 9 o’clock yet!
If you have a job outside the home, most busy mom’s bring their kids to daycare or school, and get off to put in a full days work away from home. After work, the work continues! Get the kids, help with homework, taxi kids to after-school activities, make dinner, clean up, and WHEW! Get the kids to bed.
For the work-at-home mom, the day will be F-U-L-L. Younger children will be demanding, and have needs from lunch, to diapers, to feedings, to learning activities. Older toddlers need even more intellectual stimulation. Mom’s the pre-school teacher, the art teacher, the counselor, the athletic director, and more!
If the kids are in school, there’s getting them off to school, cleaning up, housework including laundry, dishes, scheduling doctor and dental appointments (usually for the entire family), preparing for the week ahead, school events, picking up the kids and being a taxi to their activities, cleaning up (again!), fixing dinner, serving and cleaning up after dinner, getting the kids to bed and WHEW! I’m tired just thinking of it all!
This year’s Similac Mom’s Payday contest winner described her many roles as: “All in a day’s work: Accountant, activities director, chef, chauffer, counselor, delivery service, dispatcher, emergency responder, financial planner, judge, life coach, maid, music instructor, nurse, personal shopper, photographer, record keeper, rent-a-techie, rodeo clown, secretary, set designer, teacher, travel agent.”
Moms of the world – you, too, can figure out what your “paycheck” would be for all those chores you do around the house. You can input your data on Salary.com and find out what YOUR paycheck would look like.
I’m sure that this mom has forgotten to list a lot of things we do out… tell me about them!
According to Salary.com, I’m worth $140,256. What about you?
