While glancing over The Gospel According to St Matthew, I come across scripture after scripture that I want to keep recorded in the fleshy tables of my heart. All scripture from God is good, but there are obviously some verses that speak to each of us in a special way.
Although I may have missed a few, here are my favorite scripture verses found in Matthew (in the King James Version).
Matthew 6:19-21, 33
19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
What a merciful God we have that with proper prioritization, everything can be ours.
27 “But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!”
The Savior’s power is truly awe-inspiring. Even His close followers were continually amazed by His abilities.
28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
I really do believe that we can find rest in the Lord. He will carry our burdens.
50 “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
What a simple reminder that we, by our actions, choose if we are to be called brothers and sisters to the Lord.
22 “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
There is such power to prayer; I’m so thankful for that matchless gift.
40 “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
The Savior Himself receives all of our good works. How important it is for me to do better in serving His children and my fellow brothers and sisters on His earth.
