Dear Food Network,
I am writing to you today because, honestly, I am tired of my area of the country getting ignored. I live in Lake Charles, LA and that is in Southwest Louisiana. It is truly Cajun country.
Of course, everybody tends to think New Orleans is Cajun country. Even many people in New Orleans will say that it is Cajun country. However, it is not. The area in New Orleans is Creole with some Cajun influences.
It seems that every show on Food Network, Travel Channel, or anything else focusing on Cajuns starts in New Orleans. They may travel up the Mississippi. While that is a very good way to experience some of the different cultures, it is not the way to truly experience Cajun culture.
Living in Lake Charles, I am used to the many different small family owned or road side style restaurants that serve Cajun food. Of course, there are always chain restaurants. However, even some of these can be influenced by being in Cajun country and at times menus do change because of that.
I would love for Food Network to actually come do a show in Lake Charles, LA about the different restaurants, festivals, and foods available. I definitely do not want to be a host, but I am quite willing to go around and help produce this television show. I do not currently have a name for the show. Things like Cajun Cuisine seem too cliché for the title of the television program.
This show does not even have to be hosted by just one of your people. Of course, like all good food nerds, I would love to meet Alton Brown, but I know that this may not be a possibility. I would still really appreciate you considering doing a show in Lake Charles, LA. I am writing you this letter and I do love to write, so being a producer of the show would be a lot of fun for me.
Lake Charles is also the capital festival of Louisiana. There are over 75 recorded festivals throughout the year. Of course, at most of these festivals, there are food booths.
Then, there is even an interesting melting pot of culture in Lake Charles because along with Cajun food, we also have Mexican food. It is true that we have Taco Bell which serves Tex-Mex, but we also have real Mexican cuisine offered.
Please contact me as soon as possible as I think this show would be quite interesting to everybody around the country. I know that everybody I meet when I travel is always interested in the culture of my hometown.
Thank you and sincerely,
