According to the Metro Nashville Police Department news release, the Metro Nashville Police Department has seized over 30 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $28,000.
The Specialized Investigations Division, the South Precinct Crime Suppression Unit, and the South Precinct Flex Officer all put their expertise together which led to the arrest of two men Juan Delgado Gonzalez, 28, and Raul Munoz, 24. The arrest were part of the seizure of nearly 35 pounds of marijuana that has an estimated street value of over $28,000.
The arrests came after information had come in concerning possible drug activity at 371 Wallace Road. A search warrant was executed, which led to the findings of five pounds of marijuana in Gonzalez’s Ford Expedition, then the 30 pounds of marijuana in the apartment where both men resided, three vehicles and $1,700 in cash. Both men are being held on $80,000 bond as well as having a federal immigration hold on them. Authorities believe that the two men might have illegally entered the United States.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, names for marijuana range from Aunt Mary, Dope ganja, grass, weed, and pot. Marijuana known as Cannibis sativa is a product from the hemp plant. The main active chemical in the drug is THC. Of the 400 chemicals that are found in the cannabis plant, THC is the one chemical that causes the most effect on the brain. Most people who use marijuana, either smoke it as a cigarette or out of a pipe. In the year 2000, more people use blunts to smoke marijuana now, which is a hand wrapped cigar. The effects of smoking marijuana vary with each person. Some could become excessively tired, some get very hyper with uncontrollable laughing or giggling, and then some could eat everything in the refrigerator. The effects really depend on the person and how much that person has smoked.
According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States today. 37 percent of children ages 12-17 years-old smoke marijuana at lease once a month. It is also stated by Harvard University that the risk of a heart attack is five times greater one hour after smoking marijuana.
