There are some things in life that are simply annoying, Such as, when you’re in the shower and your little sister flushes the toilet on purpose. Or, guys you’ll understand this one, when you’re about to go out and your “girlfriend” (whether you’re dating or if she actually is a friend) decides that she needs to completely re-do her make-up, setting you back at least 15 minutes.
However, some things in life that annoy you are alittle more complicated than those. Such as a canker sore. Millions of people suffer from these nuisances, and 40 percent of the adult population has suffered from a canker sore at one point in their lives. But, how do you get rid of it? Many people have many different “remedies” for them, however, there are several natural remedies for canker sores that actually work.
But first, how do you know if you have a canker sore? Well, the tall-tell signs of a canker sore is a small oval, or round white ulcer that can sometimes be very painful. You will usually find them on your tongue, gums, inner or outer lips or sometimes on the insides of your cheeks. When you first experience a canker sore, it appears as a red, warm spot, which soon will ulcerate and begin to have a yellow border. It is then common for a yellowish mixture of fluid to be seen, and you will normally feel a burning or tingling sensation. I know that many people mistake a canker sore to a cold sore, however, canker sores do not form blisters, and cold sores do.
So, what causes a person to get canker sores? There are literally hundreds of reasons why people get canker sores. Usually, if your parents had them, than you will get them too — talk about passing the torch. However, most people don’t start to experience canker sores until they are at least 20 years old, and gender does not matter — men and women can get them equally. Although there are many reasons why you can get a canker sore, there are some preventative steps you can take to keep from forming a canker sore.
It is suggested that you stay away from sugar and processed foods, as well as citrus fruits. Also, there are certain things that can cause an outbreak in certain people. The main way to stay away from canker sores, is pay attention to what you do when you get one. Did you use a new mouthwash? Have you been consuming a lot of citrus fruits, coffee of tart foods? All of these factors can bring on a canker sore.
Now you know what can cause one, what can you do when you have one? Well, usually canker sores only last a week or so, and will clear up on their own. However, if you’re like most people you aren’t wanting to sit and wait for it to clear. There are several natural remedies that work wonders on canker sores. In order to shorten the duration of a canker sore, it is suggested that you squeeze vitamin E oil on the sore several time throughout the day. This not only brings blood to the surface of the infected area – which will expedite the healing process, it also gives you pain relief. Another good method is to put Goldenseal powder or a moistened goldenseal tea bag on the ulcer. This will help with the healing process as well as give you pain relief. However, if you are starting to feel that “tingly” sensation that is common with a canker sore, take 500 mg of Vitamin C with bioflavonoid three times a day for three whole days.
