Everyone loves candy. The All Candy Expo which is held once a year provides candy lovers with information about what will be the next year’s hottest trends. For the upcoming year it is fusion flavors and upscale chocolates with health issues considered as well. In a press release issued by the National Confectioners Association these trends were announced. The All Candy Expo is expected to feature 2,000 new products from 500 exhibitors according to the press release. These exhibitors come from throughout the world, a total of 75 different countries will be represented.
The biggest trend with candy it appears according to the press release will be changes in flavor. These changes will trend more towards quality and unique flavor instead of increased quantity. Fusion is popular in food, and it’s becoming more popular in candy as well. This can be seen by combinations in gum flavors of minty (spice) and fruit flavors. Chocolate is also picking up on the spice trend. Some new chocolates in the coming year according to the press release will feature hot peppers such as cayenne combined with the sweetness of the chocolates. Snack foods are entering the fusion world too with Spinach and Artichoke potato chips from Boulder Canyon, and Sweet Chilip Crisps from Rice Works.
Fusion is not the only new trend with candy and snack foods though. International interest is increasing in these snacks as well. This opens the market for items such as rum cakes from manufacturers such as Tortuga and Sweet Maui Onion Chips from Poore Brothers to the American consumer.
Upscale chocolates are also expected to increase in quantity and popularity over the next year according to the press release. Some of these include truffles with different chocolate centers than the traditional mass produced ones. The centers will feature flavors such as pear praline and sea salt caramel just to give you an idea of what is to come from these creations.
Candy and chocolate makers are keeping the new health conscious attitude of Americans in mind this year too. They are creating healthier fruit snacks that combine with yogurt cultures. They are also creating more of the popular 100 calorie snack foods. Dark chocolates are also being pushed out to the market more after recent declarations of their health benefits. These changes along with more sugar free snacks are giving health conscious consumers more choices the remainder of 2007 and into 2008.
For children out there, they are always told not to play with their food. Well, candy is a little bit different. Manufacturers are making candy that can be played with. These include items such as candy that makes music, gummi laces for your shoes, and gummy bugs that you can pull from a platic stomach before eating them.
Regardless of what parents think of these new creations, they are destined to sell. These candies will be what is hot as the 2007 year winds down and into the beginning of 2008. The new trends in candy announced at the ALL CANDY EXPO are just the beginning of these new trends.
