There are more than a few Chinese buffets in the city of Pittsburgh but there aren’t many that are open late. The New China Garden Buffet in Etna keeps theirs up until 8:30 pm seven days a week. In fact, they are one of the Chinese places that offer a lunch and dinner buffer seven days a week. It is a friendly place with a lot of regulars; if you go there once a week chances are you will see the same faces there. It is one of the only Chinese buffets in the Etna area that offers you a good value for your money and allows you to get in, eat and get out in as little as a half hour.

Is it worth the price? If you get there when the lunch rush starts they restock the food often. The staples are egg rolls, fried or cheese wonton, fried and plain rice, beef and broccoli, beef and mushrooms, roast pork, sautéed string beans, fried tofu, wonton soup, egg drop soup, shrimp and vegetables, stir fried vegetables. The menu seems to be pretty consistent from day to day but there are times when they will add a special item.
New China Garden has coupons in Clipper Magazine and there are several Pittsburgh based business websites that have printable coupons. These change from month to month but the current ones include 10% off any pick up or deliver order, $2.00 off an order of $15.00 or more, 50% off a buffet when you buy one at full price, $5.00 off an order of $30.00 or more. For the price you aren’t getting a bad deal but you have to know when to go to get the freshest items and so that they are restocked regularly.
The restaurant is spotless and there are packets of everything from soy to duck sauce available near the beverage fountain area. You aren’t going to be dining with the rich and elite here; you’ll be eating off of syrofoam plates and with plastic silverware. It’s not kid-friendly (no crayons, placements etc) but they do offer lower prices for those between the ages of three and seven.
