Adam “Pacman” Jones has officially joined the roster of the professional wrestling organization, TNA. His first appearance was on TNA’s pay-per-view on Sunday, August 12th.
This 23-year-old NFL player has made headlines many, many times for his controversial ways outside of the game of football. To be honest, I did not know much about Jones before hearing about his joining TNA about two weeks ago. I have heard his names in the news but with all of the derelict football players being arrested, and not being a fan of football, I just ignored his controversy.
After I began watching the TNA pay-per-view and hearing about Jones in the previews, my interest was piqued and I had to research him real quick. I was curious because I was thinking, “Who is Jones? What is so special about him that he’s being so heavily advertised so suddenly?”
So, I found an article about Jones on Wikipedia. Right away, I noticed he s only 23 years old! How can he be so controversial in such a short time? I also noticed that his role in TNA would be a non-physical role. Why so much hype over a football player turned wrestler, who is not even allowed to, and I quote, “touch or be touched, use or be hit by any object or anything else that could injure him”?
I then saw his appearance on TNA. It was stupid! Jones cannot even talk well on the microphone. He cannot touch a wrestler, cannot be touched by anyone or anything, and cannot talk properly on the microphone! What the heck good is he? Let us see what he can do.
Wrestling is out. He cannot be an announcer because he sounds dumber than Dusty Rhodes on crack. Manager? He cannot touch or be touched, so he will have to sit fifty feet from the in and out-of-ring action or do a Travolta and be rolled to the ring in a plastic bubble so nothing can touch him.
Maybe his gimmick can be a wrestler with a rare infectious disease, like Ebola. He can come to the ring in a protective suit, followed by a team of guards in plastic suits. They can fight for him while he sits with the announcer and does not talk.
Back to TNA. It appears his wrestling feud will be with pro wrestler, Ron “The Truth” Killings. It is the usual wrestler versus outsider spiel that has been done to death over the decades. Killings has not had much action in TNA in months. What a bad, boring way to return! A feud where no one can touch the other.
TNA got around Jones’ no touch clause by showing Jones laid out in the backroom, his assailant. Hm, let me guess, was it Killings?! Whoa, great feud. Jones was shown being taken away in an ambulance.
Will this be how Jones’ whole stay in TNA be like? Jones comes out alone in the ring each week, only to give us all headaches with his eloquent, unintelligible ghetto-speak and be shown unconscious on the floor outside of the ring. Exciting stuff!
I just watched TNA’s Impact show on Thursday. Now, Killings has teamed with Killings. Get this? At the next PPV, the team is fighting Angle for the tag team title. A tag team in which Jones cannot touch or be touched! How stupid is that?! The most stupid tag team I’ve ever heard of!
Now, why is Jones wrestling since he is a young football player, who was only drafted into the NFL as a first round draft pick to the Tennessee Titans in 2005? Simple. He is a total idiot in public and got himself arrested at least 5 times and questioned by police 11 times since he was drafted by the Titans in 2005. He has mostly been arrested for assault at night/strip clubs, death threats, and not reporting to his parole officer. So, based on his numerous legal troubles, he has been suspended for the entire 2007 season for conduct away from the field. It will be reviewed after 10 games but there is no guarantee of reinstatement. If he is not, the team can sue Jones for $1.9 million, which was his signing bonus for 2007.
To make matters even worse, on February 19, 2007, while at a club, an altercation ensued and it is believed that one of Jones’ entourage brought in a gun and fired into a crowd, hitting three people, including the security guard. The guard was shot twice, and one of the people hit, former professional wrestler Tommy Urbanski, was paralyzed from the waist down.
The Titans have suspended Jones, so to keep his name fresh, he joined TNA for what should be a short stay. Due to his suspension, and more so to protect their investment, the Titans have forced him to be unable to be touched on TNA.
TNA is promoting a football player, who not only is an idiot, but also a man that violent trouble sees to follow! What a waste of good money on a twit who is not even allowed to wrestle! I am sick of jocks getting preferential treatment even after causing so much trouble everywhere he goes. It is just hype and Pacman being the flavor of the month. Even if he was the biggest superstar with a terrific record, he still deserves to be fired until he can act with responsibility. So he was suspended from the NFL and hired by TNA for who knows how much. Where is the punishment?
While Jones has a pretty good record for only being in the NFL for such a short length of time, he can do a lot better. Two years is hardly worth mentioning.
Jones has the talent and now the money but without the maturity and responsibility to go along with it. This TNA career is like rewarding him for being a troublemaker. This sends bad signals to other football players and future draft picks.
