Wow, You were accepted into UNC Charlotte now is the time to think about were you are going to live. Some questions to ask yourself, should you live on or off campus, how much are you willing to pay, distance from your classes, and if to have roommates or not. I going to tell you about the best and worst areas in Charlotte, North Carolina to live.
Northeast Charlotte also known as University City Area:
This is the best place to live. As far as distance it is right near the University. Apartment prices can range from $350 to $700 for a one bedroom/ one bath. There are three grocery stores in the area, plenty of eatery, and clothes shopping. If you are into bars there are plenty in the area within walking distance. Safety is a little bit of an issue, especially at University Terrace North and South, many robberies happen here. The University area stretches form Harrisburg to Uptown Charlotte. This is a really large area with plenty to do and see.
The very expensive place I have ever seen. As far as distance it is about a 45 minute drive to campus. Prices range from $500 to $800 for a one bedroom/ one bath. These apartments have plenty of amenities such as clubhouse, parking, pool, fitness center, and on-site maintenance. No matter were you live safety is always an issue. This location is in neighboring towns but is still considered apart of Charlotte. When people speak of North Charlotte they are talking about wealth, which leads to South Charlotte.
If you live on a budget do not look here. As far as distance it is about an hour away from campus. Prices range from $500 to 1200 for a one bedroom/ one bath. These apartments are basically the same as North Charlotte but they have far more gated communities. These location has the best schools, shopping, and services. A college student could not possible afford this location unless you are from here and you live at home.
East and West Charlotte:
Very cheap housing. This cheap price comes at a price meaning these are not the safest places to live. These area are a pretty good distance from campus. West Charlotte is going through real estate transition with new developments sprouting up everywhere. In west Charlotte you will find many historical sites. East Charlotte is not so lucky it the neighborhoods are very run down. East Charlotte prices range from $360 to $860 for a one bedroom/ one bath. West Charlotte prices range from $500 to 1000+ for a two bedroom/ one bath.
