When Call of Duty 4 first came out for the XBox 360, Halo 3 had a strong grip on the first-person shooter market that appeared to be unbreakable. But once people realized how excellent the game was, Call of Duty 4 began to build an online base and now attracts a similar amount of players each day.
Here are some tips on how to rack up the kills in this realistic, tough online shooter:
1. Keep moving-
Almost no spots on any map are completely safe, as bullets can penetrate many surfaces and there are always multiple angles that people can shoot your from. Unless you’re a sniper and you find a perfect spot, be sure to keep moving at all times and constantly seeking new areas to provide cover or you’ll get wasted.
2. Come in with a plan-
Each map requires different weapons and perks (special abilities) to succeed in so don’t stick with the same created class every time. Make sure you use all 5 of your class slots effectively so that you give yourself the best chance to succeed on each map. Some maps like Wetworks for example are just about all close range so picking just a sub-machine gun would be fine, but many other maps need a more versatile weapon. Or use the overkill perk to outfit yourself with both a close-range weapon and a sniper rifle or long-range weapon like an M-16.
3. Use what feels comfortable-
This game was created so that even players with rudimentary guns and abilities can compete with top-level players with the most high-tech weapons. Don’t feel obligated to use a high-level weapon just because it is supposedly better or has better stats. Use the weapon you feel most comfortable with and pair your perks to match up with the style you like to play.
4. Utilize the challenges to move up-
Performing challenges like getting a certain amount of kills with a certain weapon or head shots for example will allow you to rack up the points and move up in level much quicker than if you just try and level up by brute force. Plus complete challenges will allow you to improve your all-around skills by forcing you to do different things.
5. Know the maps-
As with any online shooter, knowing where your enemies are coming from plays to your advantage and is something you need to be aware of while playing through each game. Try and memorize the where snipers like to set up and where people like to camp out so you know what you’re getting yourself into on each map.
6. Always utilize the radar-
Pay attention not just to the red dots on the map that signify your enemies but also the green arrows that signify your teammates. Try ad anticipate where enemies are coming from and where they’re shooting at by looking at the green arrows to see which teammates they’re going after then go around their flank or come up and provide frontal support if necessary. Radar is also great for throwing grenades. Remember that enemies are often closer than they appear on the map.
