Located at 130 South Halstead in Chicago, Illinois, the Pegasus is a beautiful and bright dining experience! The atmosphere is a little more dressier than casual, but you can still feel comfortable here as you enjoy everything from the great décor – including a Greek scenic mural handpainted on the wall – to the very delicious and well-prepared foods!
They are, after all, located in the very heart of Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood, and they opened doors back in 1990 in an attempt to help the public to come to understand and appreciate true Greek cuisine.
They feel here that they offer “the food of the gods” . . . and it certainly is tasty. Whether you choose to sit in their colorful and exotic dining rooms, or even if you would rather enjoy the skyline of Chicago on their popular and romantic veranda, the food that is about to be served to you will take all of your undivided attention!
All of your Greek favorites prepared fresh, at a great price, like Saganaki, $6.50; Haloumi, $7.25, which is grilled imported goat cheese and sheep cheese with roasted tomato sauce; Tiropitakia, $6.50, baked triangles of filo dough with feta a spice stuffing; Spanakopitakia, $6.50; and many other delicious varieties like Dolmades, $7.50, stuffed vine leaves, and the delicious Loukaneko, $7.95, which is flambé Greek sausage with a hint of orange. You may have never known a place to offer such a huge and delicious selection of salads like Pegasus does! Everything from the Elliniki, $5.95, consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, kalamata olives, pepperoncini, green peppers, and feta; to the very filling Gyros Salata, $9.75, that comes with that delicious gyro meat atop their classic greek salad.
Try the Yuvetsaki, $16.25, which has tender pieces of beef braised along with fresh plum tomatoes, olive oil, wine, and herbs, baked in a cute clay pot with pasta and lots of myzithra cheese; the Arni Kapama pasta, $16.95, with very tender lamb simmered with olive oil, with a wine-tomato sauce, spaghetti pasta, and myzithra cheese. That’s not all, because there are so many other selections, too…
The Greeks know how to do seafood, and Pegasus knows how to do yours right – including selections like Tsipoura, which is a whole Mediteranean Sea Bass; Ylossa “Dover”, which is a really great English Dover Sole that is broiled or sautéed and topped with the restaurant’s great almond butter sauce. Or try one of their other great items, ranging from salmon to swordfish kebobs to even squid and shrimp! Everything here is so tasty, and very fresh.
There is the Souvlaki Kebob, $14.95, which is a favorite for many customers because it is such a succulent marinate pork tenderloin broiled on a skewer with a variety of vegetables; the traditional Merakli Meze, $19.95, thin cut lamb loin chops cooked to perfection; or try a tasty Greek specialty like Mousakas, $14.95 or the scrumptious Gyros Piato, $12.95, which is a special blend of lamb and beef that has been barbequed on a spit and served with tomatoes, onion, feta, tzatziki sauce, and warm pita bread.
And while you’re dining here, don’t forget to enjoy your meal with a great Greek wine – the list is extensive, but every wine is a great accompaniment to your Greek meal! Ask the servers for help if you need it; they seem to be very knowledgeable about those things. With such a great combination of service, delicious food seasoned to perfection the Greek way, and a great overall dining experience, no wonder sources like the Chicago Magazine choose the Pegasus as one of their top restaurants in the Chicago area!
