Almost inevitably, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has reacted to President Barack Obama’s brutal murder of a house fly in the middle of an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood in the White House.
According to AP:
“The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he’s bedeviled by a fly in the White House.
“PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.
“We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals,” PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. ‘We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals.'”
MSNBC quoted PETA president Ingrid Newkirk as saying, “He isn’t the Buddha. He’s a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.”
Not the Buddah? Considering the number of people who think Barack Obama is the second coming of Jesus Christ or at least John F. Kennedy, that is good to know.
PETA has been a pest against people who like eating meat, wearing fur or leather, or even just keeping a pet around the house, for years. That PETA has now wagged its collective finger at President Barack Obama for killing a house fly without first attempting the diplomatic dialogue approach should not be surprising. It gets PETA talked about, which is always a good thing even for a nut case, animal rights group.
PETA should be aware, though, that President Barack Obama has committed far more crimes against animals than just swatting a fly. Obama is known to eat sandwiches made with wagu beef, made from a kind of cattle that are abused (i.e. massaged and fed a special diet by Japanese farm workers) to make the meat especially tender and expensive. Obama has given his children a Portuguese water dog named Bo as reward for putting up with daddy running for President?
Where are all the PETA protestors marching around the White House chanting, “Free Bo! Free Bo! Free Bo!”
One can surmise that President Obama wears leather shoes and jackets made of leather and lined with fur when the weather permits. One is also certain that Obama uses an exterminator to keep the White House free of cock roaches and other inoffensive pests. There is no end to his abuse of animals.
And let’s not even delve into President Obama’s lack of interest in turning PETA’s issues into public policy. Where is the proposal to help pay for the stimulus by enacting a tax on meat and other products made with animal parts?
One detects a certain lack of constancy here.
