For our son’s first birthday, we are planning a construction themed party. Because there is a wide range of children that will be present at the birthday party, we figured there are alot of activites we can do based on a construction theme. I have enjoyed planning this party and I hope the guests enjoy it just as much.
For the invitations, we found a picture of a dump truck and saved it to our computer. Then, we came up with a poem for the invitation. The poem says : Foreman Kaleb is turning one, which means there is alot of work to be done. Where: ( The name of the park it is at) Construction Site. Time: Your shift starts at ___am on ____. RSVP to the shift supervisor if you will be able to make your shift. The dump truck was printed off on the invitations at the bottom of the page. At the top of the page, I punched two holes and tied yellow and black striped ribbon through it.
Decorations have been fun to prepare for also. There will be caution tape around the picnic shelter at the park with orange cones lining the walkway to the shelter. We have made construction site signs from posterboard and those will be put on the shelter columns as well. Tables will have black and yellow tablecloths on them and I am ordering specialty themed construction plates. Black and yellow cups, napkins and silverware will accent. We will also have yellow and black balloons will dump trucks printed on them. Instead of regular party hats, we have ordered plastic yellow hard hats for the children. These will also be personalized and taken home as a party favor.
Because our party is at a park, we are not planning a tremendous amount of activities. We are doing a construction worker craft made from toilet paper tubes. I found a website that I can print off the workers’ pieces from and we can glue them to the toilet paper tubes. Our game is a “dig and jig” relay race. There will be two teams and both teams will have a shovel and mound of dirt on one end. Each player must dig into the dirt and gather a large scoop, run across the field with it and pour it into a bucket across the “finish line”. Whichever team gets their bucket full first wins.
For the food, we are serving finger foods and they will be served out of new construction hats that were purchased from Oriental Trading. The food will be served with new, clean shovels. I am making brownies and cutting them into bite size pieces and “dumping” them in the back of a clean dump truck toy. We are also ordering a large cake shaped in the number one with a construction site theme on the top.
We will be doing a dump truck pinata filled to the rin with candy and small toys. In addition, each child will receive a goody bag with plastic tools, crayons and a dump truck coloring book. I am also making dump trucks for all of the children. Small dump trucks will be filled with a load of chocolate covered raisins and then wrapped in siran wrapped and tied with yellow and black curling ribbon.
