Around January 2nd I will usually find myself in the position to take down our Christmas tree and put away the ornaments. But I also find myself in another position, one that involves figuring out what to do with the Christmas cards I receive every year from friends and family. If you are like me you probably find yourself at a loss as to what you should do with them; should you keep them, or throw them away? For a house like mine there is only so much room, and I believe in recycling.
With this article I will show you some neat ideas that I have been doing over the years with my family, and in my adult life.
This might be one of the easiest projects you could make with your Christmas cards. It is also a great project to work on with family members and children. All you will need for this is scissors, glue, some ribbon and lace for the edges, some yarn and a hole puncher.
First thing you will do is cut out the pictures from the cards and glue the ribbon and lace around the edges of the picture. Next punch a hole in the top of the picture, tie some yarn through it and you are all done. The cost to you on this project will be less then $2 if you go to some place like a Dollar Store for the supplies.
Make gift tags:
These are cute and easy to attach to presents you give out to friends and family each year. For this project you will need scissors. Glue, ribbon and lace are optional for decoration.
All you need to do is cut around the pictures, leaving just enough room at the edges to write out the name of the recipient and who it came from. If there is an open space around the perimeter of the picture this will make writing out the names easier. You can also add some ribbon and lace around the edges if you want to for decoration. Again, total cost to you will be $2 or less if you know where to find the supplies cheap.
Make new cards:
This might be something best suited for younger children and will give them a chance to get creative for their friends and family during the holiday. You will need scissors, glue, construction paper and ribbon and lace if you want to add decoration.
First start out by cutting the pictures from the cards and glue them on to the construction paper. Next fold the construction paper in half and write your message inside the new card. Add the ribbon and lace to the edges if you want to.
For this project you will need to purchase a 5×7 or 8×10 picture frame with glass. You could also go with a larger frame if you want to. You will also need scissors, glue and cardstock or other heavy paper.
First, cut out the pictures from the Christmas cards. Next, use the glue to attach the pictures to the cardstock or heavy paper you will need to cut to fit the frame. Cover the paper with pictures and try to experiment with different arrangements before you glue them down. After that you can display the collage on a coffee table or end table or hang it on the wall. This is also a great gift you can give to your family and friends.
