The Sony Playstation 3 has been lacking in quality games since its launch. Other than MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Playstation 3 owners have nothing to show off their powerful hardware. Fortunately, the gaming drought will end with the start of summer. Here are five games for game-starved Playstation 3 owners to look forward to.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Publisher: Team Ninja, Developer: Tecmo, Release Date: July 3, 2007, ESRB Rating: M
One of the classic games of last generation gaming, Ninja Gaiden (originally released for the Xbox in 2004) receives a next generation facelift for Sony’s Playstation 3. In addition to high definition graphics (up to 1080p), Ninja Gaiden Sigma has a lot of new content: all the extra content from Ninja Gaiden Black, new boss battles, new missions and new devastating weapons and the ability to play as Rachel. Ninja Gaiden Sigma will, without a doubt, be the ultimate version of the classic action game.
Publisher: SCEA, Developer: Factor 5, Release Date: August 14, 2007, ESRB Rating: RP
After numerous lengthy delays, Lair has its eyes set for a summer release. The delays can be justified as Lair is one of the best looking game ever. Huge battlefields are rendered with an incredible amount of details. The scope of Lair is incredible; one boss is so huge that your dragon looks like a fly in comparison. The music adds to the game’s richness with epic orchestrated scores. Lair may as well be the most epic game ever; it will be a true showcase of the Playstation 3 power.
Publisher: Midway, Developer: Midway, Release Date: August 6, 2007, ESRB Rating: RP
From action film mastermind John Woo, Stranglehold hopes to capture the same intensity and style that makes his films so famous. Based of John Woo most famous work, Hard Boiled, Stranglehold stars Inspector Tequila (played by Chow Yun Fat) as he stylishly shoots his way to justice. Expect some intense action and unique gunplay. For Playstation 3 owners, the collector’s edition will feature the classic action film, Hard Boiled, in full high definition.
Publisher: 2K Games, Developer: Starbreeze, Release Date: June 25, 2007, ESRB Rating: M
From the developer of the sleeper hit, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, comes the much anticipated The Darkness. Based on comic book, The Darkness starts out when Jackie Estacado gained some mysterious power on his 21st birthday. Using his new powers, Jackie fights the mob by unleashing demonic creatures that can help attack and protect him. Since the Playstation 3 has extra storage space due to Blu-Ray, the Darkness has some nifty content when watching the in-game TV (full-length movies, Popeye cartoons and much more).
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
Publisher: Ubisoft Montreal, Developer: Ubisoft, Release Date: June 26, 2007, ESRB Rating: M
One of the better games for the Xbox 360, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas makes its way to the Playstation 3. Rainbow Six Vegas is an extremely fun tactical shooter whether you are playing alone, with a friend or online. This version gets all the content (including the downloadable maps that you have to pay for in the Xbox 360 version) and then some. The Playstation 3 version will have new maps and modes not availble anywhere else.
