New Buffalo, Michigan is home to spectacular sunsets, sugar sandy beaches, orchards, vineyards, antiques galore and quite possibly the Midwest’s best hamburger. “Bite into a legend,” is the local catch phrase used to capture the essence of the renowned Redamak’s burger.
Redamak’s, located in the heart of New Buffalo just blocks from the active waters of Lake Michigan, was established over 30 years ago by George and Gladys Redamak. The couple sold the popular diner in 1975 to Jim and Angie Maroney who kept the famous Redamak’s name and maintained the eatery’s family-friendly, resort town reputation. In the late 70s the Maroney’s remodeled the restaurant, retaining the knotty pine interior while decorating with antiques and vintage collectibles. Today, shelves and walls are adorned with matured photographs, bikes, toys and signs. Presently, Redamak’s seats 400 people and that includes a scenic screened in patio with woodland views.
The beloved Redamak burger, respected even in the city of Chicago, weights precisely 5 1/3 ounces before cooking. The beef is fresh, ground on site and never, ever frozen. Redamak’s patties are cooked in a cast-iron skillet and topped with Velveeta cheese, ketchup, mustard, raw onion, and dill pickles. These mouth watering hamburgers are thick and moist and are wrapped in wax paper and delivered on a paper plate. The best way to bite into this legend is to keep the burger partially wrapped in the paper so the juicy flavors end up in your mouth and not all over your hands! For a small additional charge, dress your burger with grilled onions, bacon, chili, mushrooms or olives. Burgers are served in singles, doubles and triples and are priced between $4.00 and $7.00.
Redamak’s is not only well known for it’s hamburgers but also a remarkable menu with endless options. Appetizers and side orders include: onion rings, coleslaw, macaroni salad, soup, breaded cauliflower and mushrooms, cheddar bites, mini tacos, fried shrimp and butter topped apple wedges drizzled with powdered sugar. Hearty entrees include: Philly steak, Italian beef, reubens, Polish sausage, meatball sandwiches, deep fried clam strips, chili dogs and more. A children’s menu features: mini quesadillas, macaroni and cheese, miniature burgers and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
