Since the Reagan Revolution and the neo-con phenomenon there has been a rub against Conservatives in general – religiosity. If one paid any attention during that time there was the Moral Majority, a Christian Conservative group, making a lot of racket and adding to the confusion and the din of the political debate.
Somehow despite the death of the Moral Majority, the hateful misnomer hung upon Conservatism by the Left has stuck. I have discussed the facts of the history many times. So, what about the flip side? Are there any religious Lefties? Let’s see.
IN GENERAL Black folks are far and away Lefties, and most Black folks are reasonably religious. It is often accurately stated the most segregated places in the US are during Sunday worship services. “Black Church” is a vastly different thing than most White folks are familiar with. Black Church is an event, a production, and a tradition, and none of that is meant in any denigrating fashion – it just is what it is.
Aren’t MOST northeastern Jews Democrats? Absolutely! What about northeastern Catholics? Go to Massachusetts and walk into a Catholic church and scream George Bush rocks, and then run like Hell! I’m sure the reader noticed this is more a regional thing and an ethnic thing than a religious thing. It’s a socioeconomic thing, and for the sake of this example, Black folks, northeastern Jews and Catholics all fill the bill.
But what about the charge of “extremism?” Isn’t it the Left that claims Conservative Christians, mostly of the alleged “southern” variety, at least in the way they portray it, are the religious nuts who are trying to rule this nation with a decidedly religious bent? There is no truth to their allegation at all.
Are there any actual religious nutjob Leftists? Isn’t Scientology generally seen as an extremely odd religious theory? Aliens, Thetans and all the rest? And isn’t Scientology full of Hollywood Leftists? I once had some encounters with Scientologists. I read most of L. Ron Hubbard’s freak treatise. Trust me, every single Scientologist I met was a Lefty- every single one, and I’m talking I met dozens of them in my short interest in what these folks were all about.
How about that great religious position known as “Liberation Theology,” and specifically “Black Liberation Theology?”
Liberation Theology is accurately stated on Wikipedia as “a school of theology within Christianity, particularly in the Roman Catholic Church. It emphasizes the Christian mission to bring justice to the poor and oppressed, particularly through political activism. Its theologians consider sin the root source of poverty, believing sin as exploitative capitalism and class war by the rich against the poor.” (Wikipedia)
Black Liberation Theology is described as “Black theology is a form of liberation theology that has its center in the theme of oppression of black people by white people.” (Wikipedia)
Now take the two Wikipedia descriptions and tell me the NOTICEABLE connection between the two. Both refer to oppression. The only way to seek redress for this is specifically listed as being POLITICAL in nature.
Those being the facts, who is it again who is trying to interweave a faith based concept into the machinations of politics in this nation? Hello? Where are all the Lefties when I point out the facts that do not comport with their completely false talking points?
Let’s review. When the Moral Majority got to speechifying my peeps told them to sit down and shut up. We told them that absolutely they and their ideas have a PLACE at the table, but they ain’t running the show. It was made way clear to them, and in their favor, they got the message.
Yet even though the events I just recited are easily provable, the political opposition just pretends the facts never took place and they go on with their false concepts that it is we Conservatives who are trying to install some religious litmus test within the political world. It’s not true at all.
No doubt there are Conservative loudmouths who flap their gums, but so what. Jeremiah Wright flaps his gums on a never-ending basis, but if I were to claim he were the sum total voice of religion and Liberalism, I would be raped, vilified and crucified, no?
So if any Conservative anywhere makes a stupid statement about the marriage of religion and government, why to a Leftist that is proof positive, huh? But when Jeremiah Wright goes on with his nonsense, why that’s just one crazy and completely non-influential reverend, right folks? He’s not speaking for anyone except his own crazy self, huh?
Jim Jones “People’s Temple” was Liberation Theology. Listen to the man’s rhetoric. Jim Jones was an AVOWED Marxist – HE STATED IT HIMSELF! LOOK IT UP! Would ANYONE argue with me that Jones was a Leftist and a religious nut? Go ahead – try it.
Reviewing the facts, isn’t it blatantly obvious that if anyone or any political philosophy is inviting in a decidedly religious aspect within the planks of any political platform, it is the Left and the Leftist concept of Liberation Theology and especially Black Liberation Theology?
I will confess to an extreme frustration at the facts when juxtaposed with the false reality the other side is constantly pushing and/or denying. As in they constantly claim it is Conservatives who want to make one pray in school, etc., then they pretend that the embrace by their philosophy of Liberation Theology is in no way about religion or theology and government.
How can they get away with it? I mean don’t the Wikipedia citations alone put to rest any such position on the part of a Lefty? The conclusions are obvious and as I have stated for two years – either these people, those pushing it and those going along, are too damn dumb to Google “Liberation Theology,” or they are liars, in that the talking heads know the truth, but they want what they want, so it’s all good.
The talking heads know this is the marriage of religious theory and politics, but that’s fine with them because it furthers their political goals. It”s not at all the religion they fear, it’s the religion they can’t dominate and direct that so displeases them. Prove me wrong someone. Let’s have your best shot.
