The Dance Baby Dance by Infantastic exercise DVD promises a great workout for mom that involves baby too! Dance Baby Dance seemed like the perfect solution for me. As a working mom I wanted to spend time with my baby, not time working out, however I knew I needed to get my body back into shape too. So I borrowed Dance Baby Dance by Infantastic from the local library. Here is what I discovered.
The way the Dance Baby Dance DVD is set up is very different from most exercise videos. There are included some instructional sequences that explain the basic moves for the dance portion of the DVD. Additionally, there are several short dance-based cardio mini-workouts that you can do while holding your baby. There is also a cool-down, which is a slow dance done again while holding your baby.
Some of the dance sequences on the Dance Baby Dance DVD are designed for younger infants. Be forewarned, however, that none of the exercises are appropriate for infants who do not have head control, so babies under about 3-4 months old shouldn’t participate. Most of the sequences are best suited for older infants and young toddlers. Keep in mind that as your baby grows, your workout will get harder since you’ll be holding onto more weight!
As far as enjoyment goes, my son really loved the Dance Baby Dance DVD when he was younger, between about 4 and 8 months. He would only last for 1-2 sequences, but that was around 20 minutes of a workout which was far more than I was getting before. As my son got older, however, he started not being as interested in the Dance Baby Dance DVD and would want to get down and crawl around instead of being held. Now that my son is 13 months old I think he might enjoy it again, however I have not tried it out with him.
As for the workout for mom, Dance Baby Dance by Infantastic will get your heart-rate up. The dance sequences are not especially rigorous, particularly if you have a young infant who you don’t want to bounce around too much, but you will burn some calories and get your heart pumping.
So overall, my suggestion for the Dance Baby Dance by Infantastic DVD as a workout for mom and baby is that each family needs to try the DVD out before buying it. If you can borrow a copy or rent it from your local library, do so. This way you can see if your little one is interested or not. If your baby does enjoy the Dance Baby Dance by Infantastic DVD, you can expect to get a great mini-workout while spending a fun time with your child.
