Egg Harbor Café in Geneva, Illinois – The Review
There seems to be a greater excitement with going out to eat for breakfast as opposed to lunch or even dinner. Most of us wake up from our six to eight hour sleep and arise ready to take in a good meal. How can one not get pumped up for such early morning fare such as pancakes, eggs, French toast, and a good hot cup of coffee? I get my morning breakfast fix about four to five times a year in my local neighborhood in the far west suburbs of Chicago. This little gem of a restaurant is called Egg Harbor Café in Geneva, Illinois.
Egg Harbor Café in Geneva, Illinois Review – The Breakfast Menu
The breakfast menu at Egg Harbor Café in Geneva covers a variety of egg and pancake dishes for the hungry and selective customer. Sticking to its theme, the menu is chalk full of different egg choices such as omelets, scramblers, frittatas, benedicts, and even delicious egg substitutes for those with dietary restrictions. Most of the egg dishes come with delicious fried potatoes called “harbor potatoes” and a hearty English muffin. If you don’t want eggs there are plenty of tasty alternatives such as pancakes, Swedish pancakes, oatmeal, crepes, waffles, and a very delicious cinnamon roll French toast. The kid’s menu also provides some great choices that include different pancake and egg combinations that include a choice of beverage. The downside to the menu is probably deciding which item to choose when bombarded with so many choices. At the entrance to the dining room, there is also a “specials” board touting the daily concoctions offered up by the chef.
Egg Harbor Café in Geneva, Illinois Review – The Service
The wait staff at Egg Harbor always provides excellent service and is exceptionally quick with bringing everyone’s drinks and food. I especially like the fact that each table is provided a carafe of coffee. This is a good policy as it assures the customer that refills are within reach, and frees up the food server to provide quality service to all tables. The food always arrives quickly, hot, and without any problems. I have also noticed that the food service staff at the Geneva location has had very little turnover as I still to this day recognize many servers that began working when the store opened a few years ago.
If you plan on visiting the Geneva Egg Harbor location on the weekend, try and go early in the morning as to avoid the long waits. The weekend waiting times can range anywhere from twenty five to forty minutes. As we are patient people, we do not mind waiting as much in the warmer months since we can window shop at the neighboring stores until we are paged. Though I do not recommend the wait during the cold months as the lobby gets very congested and children’s patience will wear away very quickly. Try and go on a weekday if possible, as you will avoid any kind of wait.
Egg Harbor Café in Geneva, Illinois Review – The Price
The only other comment worth mentioning is that the price of the food is neither cheap nor too expensive. Most breakfast items range between six to nine dollars, with most dishes running at the $7.95 price. Most items on the kid’s menu run about $3.95 and include a choice of beverage. The kid’s breakfasts always look quite tasty and the portions are generous.
Overall, I give Egg Harbor café a big thumb up when it comes to delivering a delicious meal and cheerful setting. I recommend a trip to this establishment if you are looking to take the family out for a morning treat, or just looking to meet up with an old friend over coffee.
