I have a problem with awfully dry hands, especially in the cold, dry winter months here in Alaska. I also have a daycare and wash my hands quite a few times a day, which contributes to more dry, sore hands.
I was a rep for a well known cosmetics company, and believe me, I have tried many hand creams and lotions, but nothing works like this Neutrogena Hand Cream does. It goes on smoothly, is not greasy, and keeps my hands soft and comfortable for most of the day. Just a small pea sized dollop is needed, and the absorption is amazing. No need to wipe your hands on a towel or your jeans after applying it.
I also suffer from dry itchy skin on my legs, and it can keep me up at night. It gets so bad that I have actually woken up with sores on them from scratching so much. I have found that if I will take the time to put Neutrogena hand cream on my legs before going to bed, I get relief from the itching for at least a week! It is wonderful!
Neutrogena uses glycerin in this hand cream. Weather it is produced artificially from propylene glycol or naturally derived from vegetable oils (I hope the latter), glycerin is a great moisturizer. Have you ever used a bar of glycerin soap? Ever left it in the corner of a tub and watch it melt away and turn to mush? Well, glycerin is a soft soap, and it is soft on your skin. Vegetable glycerin is a humectant, that is, it draws moisture to your skin.

The 2 ounce tube is such a perfect size. I can stick a tube in my purse or in the glove box in my car. Since the cream is so concentrated, the tube will last longer than you’d think. In fact, the company boasts that this will give you over 200 applications! How’s that for value?
The cream isn’t your typical cream. I would describe the texture as a combination of cream and salve. You can actually draw a fine line of it across your hands, as it’s a bit waxy. It is quite thick, and some people may not like the texture. I don’t mind it, I feel like it is very rich and luxurious. In the winter time I apply it liberally on my hands at bedtime, taking extra care to rub it into my cuticles, and I wake up to nice soft hands in the morning.
I also feel that this cream, when used during the day, helps keep my hands moisturized even when I wash them often. It seems to repel the water a bit. I think this cream would be great for carpenters, factory workers, farmers, painters, contractors, nurses, doctors, or anyone who exposes their hands to the elements or extra hand washings. I highly recommend this hand cream to anyone with seriously dry skin. It costs a little more, but is worth every penny. I use the fragrance free. Recommended by dermatologists.
Retail price is $4.39 for a 2 ounce tube.
