If you’re looking for a decent place to stay near the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama then you can’t get any closer than the Huntsville Marriott. This hotel is situated adjacent to the Space & Rocket center and many of the upper-floor rooms offer outstanding views of the rockets.
This hotel is 100% smoke-free and offers 290 guest rooms starting from about $140 a night. Call the hotel or check the website for special rates for seniors, AAA members, and corporate travelers.
There are two restaurants and a lounge on-site: Porter’s Steakhouse open for dinner only, Season’s Restaurant open for breakfast and lunch, Otter’s Lounge open for dinner plus a Starbuck’s stand open all day.
Food is available for room service delivery although you will pay a little extra for the service. I ordered dinner and breakfast via room service during my 3-day stay and received very quick and friendly service. The staff answered my call immediately, took my order, and gave me an approximate time of delivery. The food arrived hot and well-prepared within the stated time frame, and I even received a little red carnation with each meal.
The hotel also offers breakfast cards that you can fill out the night before and mark your selections for breakfast the next morning. You choose your food, beverage, and time of delivery (within a fifteen minute delivery window), and place the card on your outside door handle before midnight. This service can save business travelers plenty of time in the morning.
The guest rooms are decently sized and equipped with comfortable beds, a work desk with internet access, television with in-room movie access, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. During my stay, I thought that the bedding was very nice with soft comforters and crisp sheets. One big drawback is that high-speed internet access is NOT complimentary as it should be in most hotels these days. Dial-up access if free, but you have to pay an additional $9.95 per day for high-speed access.
The sink area is outside of the bathroom. The bathroom has a standard tub, shower, and toilet. In my room, the closest was directly behind the sink area and contained plenty of clothes hangers as well as the iron and ironing board. However, I was really impressed with the complimentary Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy amenities provided in my room including shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and body lotion. The scent was energizing orange ginger, and I felt the quality of these items was very good.
The hotel has a nice recreation area with a large indoor/outdoor pool. You can start in the outdoor pool, swim under a partition, and end up in the indoor portion of the pool. There is a hot tub adjacent to the indoor pool area. During my visit, I enjoyed the both the pool and the hot tub in complete solitude – very relaxing! However, the hot tub jets did not seem to be working properly. Across the room, you can access the fitness center which offers standard cardio equipment.
Upon wake-up each morning, you receive a complimentary copy of USA Today outside your door.
The closest attraction and the reason why many visitors choose this hotel is the nearby U.S. Space and Rocket Center and Space Camp. You can walk to the museum in about 10 minutes or jump in your car and park closer to the museum’s entrance. If you’re interested in learning more about the Space Center, please visit my page to see my review of the center.
Although this hotel is a bit pricey for the area, my stay was very comfortable, and I would stay at this Marriott location in the future. I enjoyed being close to the airport and Interstate 565. The service personnel were friendly and my phone calls were always answered promptly. Both check-in and check-out were simple, quick, and painless!
