I remember when Manhattan’s New York Pub and Deli opened in Newport News, Virginia. I was with the Chamber of Commerce at the time and all of us were excited about the restaurant. It was one of only three located in the new industrial section of Oyster Point.
Located at 601 Thimble Shoals, Boulevard, the restaurant hasn’t changed that much over the years. It is still primarily geared to the young professionals that work in that busy business area. Everyone still flocks there for cocktails and conversation after a long day at work.
If you didn’t specifically know where Manhattan’s was, you would probably miss it altogether. Although it is located on a main street of the park, just off one of the city’s busiest avenues (Jefferson), it is tucked into the side of a building that looks more like office space than a restaurant.
Manhattan’s New York Pub and Deli isn’t a large facility. It is small and cozy with intimate seating and subdued lighting.
The service is generally quite good although it can be a bit slow during the lunch rush hour and between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. The staff is friendly and helpful, making suggestions if you ask for them and taking time to speak with you on a personal level.
Like a lot of places, however, the food at Manhattan’s can be a bit “hit or miss.” I’d estimate that your chances of getting your food just the way you want are more than even. They certainly make every attempt to please.

Manhattan’s New York Pub & Deli is open Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. They are closed on Sunday. They accept most credit cards.
