The Henry Ford Museum, located in Dearborn, MI has a new exhibit this summer that is sure to spark the attention of the young and old alike. It’s called Rock Stars’ Car and Guitars. The name pretty much says it all. The exhibit features a variety of hot rod cars, motorcycles and guitars that were owned by some of the most notorious rock musical artists of all time.
This exhibit displays 20 cars, 30 guitars, with tons of entertainment. Any rock music lover will surely enjoy this presentation. As you enter the beginning of the exhibit, there is a booth set up there sponsored by Verizon Wireless. They give you a backstage pass to wear and instructions on how you can get more info abut each car, guitar, or artist through a Verizon Wireless phone. They will give you a phone to use during your walk through or if you already have a cell phone with Verizon Wireless service, you can dial a special number at each stop to get more information. Each display has a number associated with it and when you dial it, you can get hear information from the artist directly.
The various rock artists whose cars are included in this exhibit are some of Detroit Rock City’s favorites; Kid Rock, Bob Segar, Madonna and Ted Nugent. Other artists include Elton John, Elvis Presley, Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Samy Hagar, ZZ Top, Bon Jovi, Kiss, The Beach Boys, John Lennon, Marilyn Manson, Jimmie Vaughn, Metallica, Bad Religion, and U2. The guitars displayed come from B.B. King, Rick Nielsen, Ted Nugent, Kirk Hammet, Billy Gibbons, Kiss, Jimmie Vaughn, Dusty Hill, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and John Lennon.
As you walk through the entire exhibit, there is music playing from all of the featured artists. Light are flashing, making you feel as if you are on stage performing. They even show videos behind some of the cars so you can see them in motion and in use. At the end of the exhibit, there are 2 small stages set up with Guitar Hero II games for you to jam out to. This is the icing on the cake for this full rock and roll experience. A large screen is displayed as you play the game console guitar so all your fans can watch you. There is also a special Rock Stars Cars and Guitars gift shop at the end of the exhibit where you can buy collectibles and souvenirs.
The Rock Stars’ Cars and Guitars exhibit is located within the Henry Ford Museum. Admission to the museum includes this exhibit for free. Tickets are $14 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for kids. The exhibit runs through September 30th. The Henry Ford Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
