Bedding for your baby’s nursery can be one of the greatest expenses of preparing for your baby to be born. You could easily spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars on baby bedding sets and accessories for your baby’s crib. There is no need, however, to spend a fortune on bedding for your baby’s nursery! Here are some ways to save big bucks when purchasing baby bedding for your nursery.
Skip sets. Many bedding options for baby rooms are sold as sets. While these sets tend to be super cute and have the appeal of being an “all-in-one” deal, you will most likely end up spending more money on a set than you would if you bought the nursery bedding items separately. The reason for this is that most baby bedding sets come with items that you never even use. The average nursery bedding set comes with a crib bumper, however crib bumpers are not recommended because of an increased risk of SIDS. Other specialty items that you never intend to use in your nursery may also be included so make sure you only buy a baby bedding set if you are certain you will use every piece of the bedding set for your baby’s nursery.
Never pay shipping. You can often find great online deals on baby bedding. It is great to take advantage of these deals, but don’t waste your money on shipping costs. There are tons of baby gear websites that offer free shipping if you purchase a particular amount of goods. Shop around while looking for your baby bedding until you can find a free shipping deal for your purchase.
Save on sheets. While you may think that the more sheet sets you have, the less laundry you’ll be doing, in reality you really only need about three flat sheets for your baby’s nursery. You will be doing laundry when your baby is a newborn very often anyway, so it won’t be difficult to throw a sheet in with it. You likely won’t have to change your baby’s crib sheet any more often than you change your own bed sheets. Buy one or two crib sheets that go along with your baby’s nursery and then buy one or two more crib sheets in plain white. The white crib sheets will be less expensive than the printed crib sheets, but they will be there if you need them.
Consider making some items yourself. If you are a good sewer, or you know someone who is, consider making some of the bedding items for your nursery. Many great nursery room patterns exist for everything from crib dust ruffles to valances. You may be able to find some great fabric on sale and take advantage of a custom made item, or several, for your baby’s nursery bedding.
Bedding for your baby’s nursery does not have to send you to the poor house. Consider these options and save a bundle, for your little bundle.
