Snacking is something that most of us do during many of our idle moments throughout the day. Or maybe we’re busy working or surfing the internet and grab a snack to avoid having to stop what you’re doing to fix something to eat. One thing about snacking is, depending on what kinds of snacks we eat, we can be adding on some unwanted pounds. Many people these days are trying to watch their weight whether it be for health reasons or personal reasons. One way to do this is by paying attention to everything we eat, including snacks. Suppose someone has healthy foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but gorges on cupcakes, cookies, Twinkies, and chips throughout the day. Those snacks aren’t doing anything to help them in their nutrition. While they may have replaced butter with margarine and fried chicken with skinless grilled chicken, the snacking habits will still pack on the pounds.
Some of our between meal urges can completely spoil our diets altogether. So what are some healthy snack choices that aren’t loaded with calories, carbs, and sugars that can spoil our diets?
Nabisco 100 Calorie Snacks-Nabisco offers a great variety of tasty snacks that are all just 100 calories. Some of the choices are Cheese Nips, Wheat Thins, Teddy Grahams, Cinnamon Crisps, Oreos, and Chips Ahoy. These snack packs have no trans fat in them and also contain less sugar, carbs, and calories than if you were to snack on your normal junk foods such as pies, cakes, cookies, and candy. With the smaller portion but same great taste, Nabisco 100 Calorie Snacks are a great way to curb appetites.
Trail Mix-Trail mix comes in a variety of flavors. You can get them with various kinds of nuts, raisins, seeds, and some even have M&Ms inside. Trail mixes can also contain dried fruits, rice chex, pretzels, or other snacks you like to mix in. This is a tasty treat you can snack on throughout the day.
Granola Bars-This convenient snack can be eaten on the go. They come in crunchy or chewy and also may contain chocolate chips, M&Ms, or things similar to that found in trail mix. A granola bar can be a quick pick me up. With the different flavors and the choice of the crunchy or chewy ones, I’m sure you’ll find one that you like.
Yogurt-For those who can consume dairy products, yogurt is always a good choice. It is full of live and active cultures including L. Acidophilus which supports healthy digestion. Many yogurts are fat free, some have real fruit mixed in, and they contain vitamins.
Fruit-This is an obvious healthy snack choice. Not only are fruits one of the recommended food groups you should consume daily, they can satisfy those snack cravings. Whether you have an apple or banana or choose to make yourself a fruit salad, you will get needed nutrients plus some sugars to curb that sweet tooth.
Veggies-Just like fruits, veggies are a natural healthy snack choice. Raw veggies such as carrot sticks, celery, or even broccoli give you the most nutrients but if you prefer, you can heat your vegetables up.
Salad-While salads can be helpful, some people get in trouble with them. It’s fine to want to spice up your salad with some tomatoes, cucumbers, or croutons, but take it easy on the salad dressing. Some people don’t realize that a serving of salad dressing doesn’t mean you cover every piece of lettuce you have with thick French or creamy ranch dressing. If you’re going to have dressing on your salad, have a light dressing and don’t overdo it.
Just thinking about what we’re snacking on can help in a big way. If you don’t want your diet to be in vain, have smart snacks in addition to smart meals. You don’t have to deprive yourself, just choose to snack healthier.
